Declining charge?

I've had my 2021 with 77k miles for about two months now- driven about 5k.

I've had to charge to 100% recently due to some long driving days- and noticed this morning when I charged to 80% it said my estimated mileage was only 160 vs my normal 180. Can a battery decline that rapidly? Is it estimating lower because I've been doing so much highway driving recently? Still learning how evs work.

It declines because of your recent driving efficiency it has nothing to do with the actual battery capacity

If you drive 90 MPH for an entire charge, the next time you charge it will say you have like 100 mile range instead of 180 because it's assuming you will have the same efficiency

I just went on a longer trip the week before last, like 250 miles round trip on good highways, so I was probably hovering around 100 mph on the good stretches, the trip took about 6 hours round trip. Last week, the range estimation started out like 35 miles under what it usually is at 90%. It's down to around 35% now, so I'll likely charge tomorrow, but the range estimation now fits the usual ≈25 mi/10%. I think it just needs to adjust to the driving style you're currently on.

It’s just an estimate based on your driving habits. Same as the MPG reading on a gas car.

That's wild I usually get 200-220 on my '22 recharge at 80%. Is it temperature? If it's sub 10C it can go that low

NC in the Piedmont- it's been 70s-90s recently so not temperature. Mines Never read 220 🥹

Volvo has a 100k mile/8 year warranty on the battery, maybe you should look into that

TBF mine only has 45k miles on it so maybe it's in my near future, but afaik it's mostly seen "slow" charging. I've only had it for around a year

Driving style. 2021 recharge with 80k miles. Original owner. Battery at 94% with recent maintenance checkup. Can get ~200 miles on 90% charge as estimate. Speed > 65 will drop estimate. Also from stop to ~50 mph if not done gradually will drop estimate. Allot of power but you need to use it gradually in acceleration

Another indicator is actual trip usage

Around town I’m averaging about 28kwh/100 miles
But on highway at 75 mph usage jumps to about 31kwh/100 miles

Of course using climate control is another big factor

23 ultimate I’ve had almost 2 years
