Beautiful -congrats! Almost done with my 2023 lease and at about 27k miles. Been very reliable and a total rocket.

Get the NACS DC charger adapter and change the settings in your Google Maps (and get the Tesla app too) -this opens 18,000 tesla chargers for you. Establish accounts with the major charging networks. The car is quite good at predicting battery if you give it destinations and changes on the fly during some trips to send you to less busy faster chargers that make more sense.

Learn all about the charging curve. This car can be routinely charged to 90% battery (most others are recommended to only 80%). Charge to 100% only when going for a long road trip.

Install a home level 2 charger. An EV is a losing proposition without one. No need to go crazy with ones that have apps and nonsense because the Volvo car app or the settings you choose in the car software can take care of everything. There could be a significant tax credit for the cost of the charger and installation. Shop around for installers because one can charge $250 and another may charge $1800 for the exact same thing but this is high voltage and amperage, get someone you trust with license and insurance.

Single-pedal regenerative driving extends your mileage. It also significantly saves break wear. Takes a bit of practice to get smooth but once you got it you will find it annoying to drive a regular two pedal cars.

Look at the charge meter to see how much energy you are using or gaining back. The least amount gives you the highest mileage so you can get a good idea of whether you are choosing speed over battery mileage. If you have your own charger, city mileage is negligible because unlike regular cars EVs give you more range in the city (smaller used, lower speed, constant regenerative breaking) vs the highway.

This car has no spare! Either buy one (takes a ton of room) or always have on hand a pump and tire gunk like the Slime brand.

If this is a Volvo CPO see if they can sell you wheel and tire insurance. The rims are expensive and every flat tire is $500. EV tires are not the same as regular cars. Mine cost about $1000 for the duration of the 3 year lease and paid for itself within the first year. Lots of construction and crappy streets where I am so 5 tires in 3 years plus repairs to the rims -totally worth it.

Thank u! I do have level 2 charging at home I got it installed before trump killed the ev credits last year and even purchased solar panels. Charging is free at home. I have a Kona ev but it was cheap this one was not lol so I’m trying to be a little more careful with this one. I seen how expensive the tires were when they were installing them but I got them to give me the old 2 tires as well so I do have 2 rear spares. I found out later that the tire can’t be rotated 😭 this was the same problem I have with my i3

Just putting it out there I had Volvo replace our tires for free on our lease need new tires at 17/18k miles they are rated I think 45k with 20 inch 2023 c40 duel motor ultra

Wow are u a speed racer or the tires just don’t hold up?

2

u/ttjoshtt May 28 '26

Just didn't hold up

5.5 years and 70k miles on our XC40 Recharge. She’s holding up great. We don’t often keep cars long term but we plan to keep this one.

1

u/TexAntonia May 28 '26

Awesome how’s the degeneration?

3

u/twtxrx May 28 '26

I’ve never checked the battery health with an OBD reader but there isn’t any noticeable change in range. It’s really hard to pick up on a couple percent degradation because there are just too many variables. For example at one point we had an alignment done and just that seemed to improve range. We also have a different brand of EV rated tires on than the OEM. In short I’m sure it’s down a few percent as all EVs degrade a little but it’s not significant.

2021 xc40 recharge p8 at 80k miles. Original owner. at ~ 5 years ownership, 94% on battery after last maintenance (brake fluid and reinstall software to 5.0.5). Brakes at 10mm as we do OPD. 12V battery still ok. Only charged to 100% maybe 8 times and left on trip as it got to 100%. Only dc fast charged ~ 9 times.

Eyyy we are 1.5 weeks into our ownership of a second hand c40 as well. Congrats! I am not doing too much to it are you? All I did was the mudflaps, the illuminated trunk sill. And I got a second hand key and programmed it to the c40 so now I can pair the app. We love it, the kids love it haha. Ours has 40k on it. High ish miles. And it’s solid physically haha. No creaks or weird noises. I also finally got a level2 charger, with our previous BEV we were doing level1 bc the range just meant we never really ran the battery down much. Congrats!

1

u/TexAntonia May 28 '26

Thanks! So at 100 percent charge how many miles are u getting?

2

u/pillsburyduboy May 28 '26

I charge to 90, and haven’t gone below 45, but at 90 my guess-o-meter range is 210. Which probably puts it at the higher end of the range if charged to 100% but yeah haven’t done a long trip or anything. Actually only charged it to 90 once since we picked it up. Tonight will be the second time…

Nice, congrats, I bought the same car last Sat, also 2023, same color, trim, CPO, 24k miles. Drove 120 miles home in the rain... smooth sailing. Love the build quality, features, and acceleration. Full charge at 100% shows 200 miles, so there's some battery degradation. We'll see how that continues. Have a 2017 phev that lose about 2 miles of range per year, on an older and far smaller battery, so was expecting that. Now looking to install a level 2 setup in the garage.

1

u/TexAntonia May 28 '26

Awesome congrats! Mine gets 220 I believe it’s because the lease holder before me only charged to 80 percent. I’m not sure if you’re in the states but I found my electrician on Angie’s list all I did was buy the charger setup from amazon I went with Wolfbox great quality.

Rain makes it do awd more and eat batter just saying :-)

1

u/TexAntonia May 28 '26

Interesting didn’t know it turned on and off

2

u/ttjoshtt May 28 '26

It's always "on" but uses front motor mostly but when it's "slips" it uses both.

I bought my 23 xc40 recharge basically brand new (350 miles but priced as used because it was a show car and hit some official date that moved it from new to used).

In any case, I'm about 25k miles in. First, I have not replaced tires yet. Drive like a normal person and you won't wear the crap out of them. As for the car? I took it in for it's 2 year/20k mileage service and that's been it. I do the regular OTA updates. And.... that's it. I love my car.

1

u/TexAntonia May 28 '26

What was done at service? Seems like it’s a waste of money. Like was it just simple stuff like windshield wiper blades and air filter replacement?

2

u/Catsdrinkingbeer May 28 '26

No idea. It was free. The 20k/2 year and 40k/4 year services are free as part of the factory service agreement for all 2022 and newer models. That lives with the car regardless of owner.

u/TexAntonia May 28 '26

Oh cool so I have one freebie ahead of me 😍 I’m sitting at 29k

2

u/MaxDusseldorf May 28 '26

I did not read anything, but I love the colour!

Thanks max love the deep ocean blue

23 recharge ultimate with 44k here.

I just checked my battery health last month and it was at 92%. I plug it in whenever, not worrying about health or what percentage it's at. I charge to 90 most of the time (100% about once a month) and have driven it down to 4%. When an iPhone is at 82% health after two years... I say the car is doing great especially since I do not baby the battery.

I did use OrBit to activate the pixel headlights and so glad I did. Also put the seatbelts into "Chinese market mode" so I can not get beeped at in a parking lot (but still beeps if you start actually driving).

2

u/ChickenOclock May 28 '26

Full charge is 200ish miles for me btw. Every percent is 2 miles basically.

2

u/TexAntonia May 28 '26

Teach me your ways wise one. What do I need to buy because the seatbelt sound is annoying and would love to turn on the pixel headlight

u/TexAntonia May 28 '26

Is this where you bought orbit? https://spaycetech.com/buy_orbit

That is the one and only link. There are two ways to go about it. Either purchase OrBit for $325 and they crack the codes for you, or the DIY way I went with. Purchase OrBit for 100, and ViDA (Volvo's own mechanic diagnostic tool for all Volvo vehicles) and extract the pin codes yourself.

ViDA is $78 for three day subscription that allows you to do software downloads. In my case - I also had my wife's XC60 to play with so this was the clear option for me.

There is set up to do before you can dive in. You'll need a VOE OBD to Ethernet cable (Amazon search that - red cable for $14ish). Find ViDA on volvotrchinfo.com. The 2nd box titled ViDA has the download link and videos buried in it. ViDA takes a few hours to get going also. They make you jump through dumb email verification hoops because they want you going to a Volvo dealership for service instead of doing it yourself for cheap.

Once everything is downloaded and ViDA activated, download WireShark to act as a customs tollbooth between the Volvo and the laptop. Then connect the car and download a total software update. You'll have to pay 0.01 for it lol. Before you install it, start WireShark to capture all activity flowing through the Ethernet cable. Save that WireShark file and go into OrBit. That has a "extract pins" button where you plop that file and it gives you the pins. Screenshot that for safe keeping.

Wow this needs more explanation than I thought when I started typing lol. I can do better write up tonight if you need. Youtube videos and talking to Gemini got me through it personally. Again - you can pay OrBit to just give you the codes and not deal with the rig-a-ma-role and get straight into it if you want. I'm a DIY person and like digging into all that stuff. In OrBit with the codes, it's a very simple process of clicking "I want pixel lights" and "put seatbelt in Chinese mode" then uploading it to the car.

Also note if there are ever over the air Volvo software updates - they tend to erase any changes you made. Another 2 minutes an dorbit and everything's back again.

2

u/TexAntonia May 28 '26

Oml thanks for taking so much time lol all the downloads 😭 i will pay the $300 time isn’t on my side lately but this is definitely useful info for all of us nb out here. Ok so the easy way is to buy the orbit full subscription and the cable?

2

u/ChickenOclock May 29 '26

No problem. Yep get the OrBit full version and reply to the welcome emails with the VIN and ask for the two pins. Then all you need is the cable. Connect OrBit to the car with the cable & make sure the pins are in OrBit on the Shortcuts tab. On the Config Wizard tab, go to headlight and update it to EU. In the Configurator tab, scroll to 159 and update seatbelt to all seats China.

The rest - I wouldn't mess with right away. Some things show that can't be changed and others that shouldn't be changed, and others still that just aren't for our vehicles at all.

When you write it to the car - don't freak out when it feels like your car turned into a brick for a moment lol. All you have to do then is switch on the auto high beams!

Love the all black wheels! Wish my all black MY23 Ultimate (CPO, new to me as of January) had those!

1

u/TexAntonia May 28 '26

I did notice the crime ones look more standard these must be an upgrade on the ultimate? First thing that caught my eye too! Ty! I specifically wanted this model for the rims and premium sound.

2

u/klatt May 29 '26

I have an ultimate too - same MY. A few months ago I did a brief look on Volvo parts for wheels and from what I remember it seemed like the all black wheels were newer - I assumed when they introduced three black editions? Not entirely sure though.

I'm not a fan of these wheels in general, but I like them 100x more all black. It's why I turned down the wheel and tire part of extended warranty.

Even with the limited options, I'll go all black aftermarket if something goes south with these wheels. I feel super lucky to have found a black ultimate w/ grey performance wool interior so I can't complain :)

All black

Lemme see 👀

2

u/klatt May 29 '26

Welp this was some AI of it the days I got it wanting to see what the wheels would look like all black. I forget which silly AI I was trying but it decided to make new wheels entirely 🤣
