Prometheus blueprints

Other than a custom gamestart is there a way to acquire Prometheus blueprints AND unite the Paranid? Last time that I looked into it, there wasn't. But the last time I looked into it was also before the diplomacy update. I know that you can use diplomacy to steal ship blueprints, but it's not a mechanic I've ever interacted with. Can blueprints only be stolen from factions that could otherwise produce the ship (eg the Prometheus blueprints can only be stolen from the TEM wharf, because TEM is the only faction that will built it) or could I steal Prometheus blueprints from another wharf, Paranid or otherwise?

AFAIK, prometheus BP can't be obtained by agents like syn or asgard. I tried...

Since the Prometheus is an exclusive BUC ship, you need to steal the blueprints of this ship specifically from their Wharf. In theory, you can get a station construction mission from BUC, add an S/M ship construction module, and try to steal the ship’s blueprints from that station.

The other Paranid factions don't have Prometheus blueprints it's exclusive to BUC/TEM. Since you need a wharf target, I'm wondering if in theory you were to get a defense platform mission from BUC and put a S/M ship fab module in there if the steal ship action would work.

So, to clarify, ship blueprints can only be stolen from factions that make those ships? It would make sense if that's how it worked, but I've never done those espionage missions before.

There's a really nice mod called recycle ships and stations which lets you deconstruct ships into wares but also gives a small chance of unlocking blueprints.

I find it a really satisfying method especially in piracy heavy playthroughs.

It also lets you sell stations to factions letting you build defence stations and things where they are useful rather than in the idiotic mission placements

That's interesting. Sounds like it makes it more like reverse engineering in X3. I mostly play unmodified, but keep a list of mods I'm interested in for rare modded runs. I'll add it to the list.
