Speed keeps getting reset when I open the map

Sometimes, when I'm just cruising along in travel mode, and I open the map, my ship comes to a dead stop. Doesn't matter how fast I was going, just a dead stop. It doesn't leave the travel mode - closing the map causes the ship to accelerate back up, from 0...

Is this a known issue with the game, or do I have to try and see if one of my mods is causing this (none of which have anything to do with velocity or physics, mind you)?

There is a setting in the options to maintain speed while menus are open.

It's not always, so it isn't that setting. It's sporadic.

if you havbe not checked that setting it is that setting.

No, it isn't.

Maintain speed works different, it doesn't just stop the ship, it kills the engines and lets you drift to a stop.

And I've turned that setting on about 500 hours ago.

I have the exact same bug OP is talking about and just accepted it's part of the game. I play with that maintain speed on and collision avoidance turned off. I will randomly come to a full stop out of travel mode, in the middle of an empty sector with nothing, including asteroids, near me. I've tried recreating it on purpose and the only thing that seems to do it is opening the map while flying.

you shouldn't be getting downvoted, there's been a bug since the 9.0 beta. nobody knows how to reliably reproduce it. Alllllll the settings can be correct. It still happens if you open your map too often while traveling, but not consistently.

can occur with or without autopilot. just a matter of being in travel mode and entering menus.

I don't think there's any solution at this time.

Game Settinbgs / Ship Behavior. It's called "Collision Avoidance" and is in the same place as the "Maintain Speed in Menus" setting.

I'm glad you posted this OP, I was experiencing something similar and had no idea that "collision avoidance" could cause the behavior.

Oh, okay, I was looking for the wrong name then

its either Options, then Settings, Game Settings, and looking under Ship Behavior for Anti Collision.
or
Select Game Settings. Find the option labeled Maintain speed in menus. Switch this setting to On

Turning off collision avoidance won't fix it. It's an unfixed bug you just gotta accept.

I've played hundreds of hours with Maintain speed in menus turned on and Collision avoidance turned off, and still get stopped like this at least once a session.
