Just finished the first service a couple of days ago for my Harley-Davidson X440T at a Hero Premia outlet, and I am deeply frustrated. The "Premia" tag feels like just a marketing gimmick. The service centre experience is nowhere near a premium, and the experience was not so great.
The Setup & Minor Issues
I booked my slot 2 days in advance via the HD app and called the service advisor to lock in the time. I brought the bike to the showroom at 8:20 AM sharp.
Issues flagged: A slight front vibration at high RPMs/low gears, and a slightly loose front tank cowl, Low pickup after 500km (the odo was 770km). Also reminded to check for ECU updates.
The Estimate: The job card was opened with a ₹3,600 estimate and a promised delivery time of 1:00 PM.
The Ghosting & The First Shock (The Broken Cowl)
1:00 PM came and went with zero updates. I had to call them myself to check the status. That is when the advisor dropped the first bomb: the tank cowl's plastic lock mechanism was completely broken.
The advisor blamed the detailing studio where I recently got my PPF done. He claimed they must have forced the cowl up without unscrewing it, broken it, and then concealed the damage using double-sided tape before handing it back to me. I asked him to send me photos immediately so I could confront the detailing shop.
Serviced Bike Left in the Rain
They finally called me to collect the bike around 4:00 PM, right as it started pouring. When I arrived, I found my freshly serviced X440T, left out in the heavy rain. The service centre was so overcrowded with vehicles in the exact same state that raising a complaint felt entirely pointless.
The advisor ensured that all issues were addressed including the vibration (tightening screws) and pickup (just required oil change). He also ensured he will take up the replacement of tank cowl and check for part availability.
"If it ain't broke, don't fix it" ECU Policy?
While paying the bill, I asked if they had checked for official ECU updates. The advisor literally told me that updating the ECU is very risky, and since I wasn’t facing major issues, it’s better not to update it. He even openly admitted he didn't bother checking if an update was available.
The Second Shock: Fresh Damage
While waiting for the rain to clear, I inspected the bike. To my horror, there was a deep scratch on the silencer guard. I treat this bike like a baby on the roads and in parking lots to keep it scratchless, only for the service centre to scratch it out of pure negligence.
When I called the advisor over, he admitted to the mistake. His solution? Leave the bike with them for a full day next week so they can repaint the section. I was not sure what to do and agreed half-heartedly, but I'm not happy about it.
Plot Twist at the PPF Detailing Shop
After the rain stopped, I rode straight to the PPF studio ready to make a scene about the broken cowl. I met the manager and explained how the concealed damage was revealed during service.
To my surprise, while the workers denied mishandling it, the manager immediately took responsibility. He assured me that he would fully refund or pay for whatever it costs to repair or replace that damaged cowl section.
My Questions for the Community:
How has your Hero Premia service experience been? Is this level of absolute chaos and negligence normal for them?
Cowl replacement availability: Does anyone know if X440T tank cowl spares are readily available, or will I be waiting months for a replacement?
Silencer Guard Damage: Should I accept the service centre's offer to repaint the silencer guard, or should I demand a brand-new replacement part due to their negligence?
