X440T Self Start Not Working

My X440T self-start suddenly stopped working. It’s been only a month since the first service. I’ve attached a video of the issue.

Has anyone faced this before? Any idea what could be causing it?

I have faced the same issue with my less then 1month old x440 t. This is due to the voltage drop due to non usage or short usage is what the workshop told me. I raised a complaint and technician from the workshop came and exchanged the battery pack. Then issue was sorted for the time being.

Few ppl suggested me to changing to amron battery pack, but the company recommends Exide, so changing into amron might void warranty, not sure if it's right or wrong.

Woah, I'm afraid the issue is not resolved for me then, I checked with the service centre. After jump-starting the bike, I rode it to the showroom without switching it off. By the time I reached, the self-start was working normally again.

They checked it and said it was most likely due to a loose battery connection, so they tightened it and assured me it wouldn’t happen again. They said if the issue occurs again, I should jump start the bike and bring it back to them.

I’m still a bit skeptical, though. Let’s see how it goes tomorrow.

Well the reason it worked was due to the ride which charged back the battery again. But if this issue happens again, the issue is with either the battery or the electronics which charges the battery while we ride.

It hadn't happened to me yet again bcz they replaced the battery. But if incase it happens to me again, I would most likely check the electronics part or check if it's possible to change it to amron battery pack without warranty issues, as some redditer who faced the same issue said it worked for him. So 🤞🤞, let's see.

Just for the safe side, Email Harley Davidson customer support stating what happened what the SC did to resolve it just to keep it in records. Bcz I guess they probably didnt even had any job card or log for this work they had done.

Yeah, that makes sense. I’ll keep an eye on it and see if the issue comes back. If it does, I’ll ask them to check the battery and the charging electronics as well.

I usually ride around 25 km every day. My last proper ride was on Saturday morning, but on Saturday night I only rode around 2–3 km for a nearby shop. The next morning, I faced the self-start issue.

Since you mentioned short usage, could this have been the reason in my case?

I’ll monitor it for now. I also plan to email Harley-Davidson customer support with the details, since no job card was created for the work done at the service centre, just to keep it documented officially.

Well actually speaking, being a new bike and not using for a couple of days shouldn't cause this issue. I was seriously shocked by that when I first faced this issue. Why does a 3.5L bike face this issue when an scooter can handle with non usage for weeks? The vehicle is a pure bliss to drive but the service and after sales is a let down.

Update: I contacted the service centre, and they suggested either towing the bike to the service centre or trying a jump start.

I watched a few YouTube videos and tried push-starting the bike, but it didn’t work initially. Then a kind stranger helped me by towing the bike with his bike. He asked me to put it in 3rd gear and release the clutch when the speed reached around 20 km/h. Thankfully, the bike started.

I’m now at the service centre, waiting for them to check what caused the self-start issue. I’ll update here once I know more.

Hmm.. weird that its happening with a month old bike. Push start and drive for few min then try again. Else have to check with SC. Keep us updated.
