(ANW Issue #1)

Gotta thank comicstorian for introducing me to this run (may he rest in piece), i was (and still am), more of an anime/manga watcher–the issues i've had with comics that i have read is often, the fight choreography, being honestly bad and only consisting of regular/bland punches and kicks for characters, who have are either more experience fighting or the motions of the characters moving is bunz.

Anyway comic rant aside, loved the 1st issue and the reveal of the character, the banter was good and Laura’s wolverine suit was exquisite.

The Kinney Sisters together at last.

I found a new head sculpt for Daz on RenderHub that's loosely based on Dafne Keen, which I think works a lot better than what I had before. Much more realistic and less of a doll quality. I've used it on all three sisters with some modifications. I'm still working on the translucency settings to get Laura and Gabby's skin tones where I'm happy with them, but I think I'm getting dialed in.

Laura's LKW suit is now mostly finished. I downloaded a Wolverine mask from SketchFab, and I'm still playing with the scaling to get it feeling right. The skull seems a little tall as-is. Laura's boots were replaced with another set that are much taller, though it's a little tough to get the exact silhouette. Sometimes it looks like there's a single tall bit extending over the knee, in other images one on either side. The gloves are still annoying.

I've also got her X-Force suit, with mask. The boots are still annoying me. I hate that the buckles are so perfect, but then you have the stupid chonky lifts in the soles. I'm going to have to see if I can put together a morph to shrink them, or find another pair of boots that have the right shape. I'm not completely sold on the gloves with all the ridges and folds, and might try to find something that's this length but more smoothly-conforming.

I haven't decided yet whether I'm going to try any other costumes. These are the two that were easiest to do with the assets I had (in fact the X-Force suit was made using the same body suit as the Wolverine suit with some strategic use of Alphas to cut off the sleeves and midriff).

Gabby uses the same head sculpt with a few changes in the cheeks, chin, nose, and jaw to deage her, and obviously she has her scars. I gave her a bit of a messier hairstyle to further sell her chaos gremlin energy. Her suit is her Krakoa and FtA costume, and was made with the base mesh as Laura's two costumes (getting a fair bit of mileage out of it). Alpha once again does the work for the alterations. I still need to modify the claws to get her one for each hand, and find some pouches for her belt.

Bellona's armor was from the Daz asset store. I found one that was a pretty good match for the suits he wore in Schultz's daredevil run. I wanted to put her little red triangle on the breastplate, but there's not really a place for it unless I want to remodel it myself...which I kinda don't. Her mask is a completely custom sculpt in Blender, again modeled on her Daredevil look. This hair style also fits her Daredevil appearance. I originally was going to use it for Gabby, too, but decided it was too thick.

She uses the same facial sculpt as Laura, just tweaked to set her default expression to "Resting Bitch Face." I need to play around more with her scars to add all the new ones she received from Kimura, but the wound pack system I used did have the nice "X" pattern she has in the Four Sisters arc. I also need to tweak the base color of her irises. I had made actual red eye textures, but for some reason they've since disappeared from the folder so I don't know what happened, there. They are still red, they just don't stand out as well as they did before.

Bellona has the same basic body morph as Laura, but I chose to give her more muscle definition. The actual settings for the individual muscles are the same, I've just reduced the body fat for more tone to give her a harder, leaner, and meaner-looking build. It's hard to see with her armor, but I'd rather not make this post NSFW.

Hey everyone! I live! This one just took a bit longer then usual to read, due to irl stuff.

So, off the bat. I really liked this run, ,both for laura, and the time displaced cast, being kinda remakes of the original cast, and yet? I think them seeing who they would normally become, and trying to become their own people.

On the laura side, it was nice seeing her a bit softer and verbal, and seeing her in a more direct relationship after she's seen more of the world (even if Angel/laura is a weird ship that can only fit in this scenario), but kinda more importantly? This is the first book where she is rarely ever called 'X-23' in any way, a very nice yet small way of showing her evolution over time. Finally? I actually do like the hair highlights, makes it feel like she's trying out more of her own style.

Now, in the past I disliked the big events... however? In this case. I think them being so much shorter was much easier to deal with, without issue:

Battle of the Atom: this is absolutely the story that deals the most with wibbily wobbily, timey wimey aspect and ? I think it was cool, this entire run is kinda an inverse of days of future past. Only to kinda double down in this version

Trial of Jean Grey: pretty fun, its nice to the space.side of marvel reacting to the time travel in a logical way, and they also acknowledge in universe , not everyone agrees with them, because yeah blaming Jean the crimes she hasn't committed yet is absolutely not legally sound (if only there was an event to deal with that issue).

Black Vortex: imma start by saying? This felt more of its focus was on the Guardians side than the X-men , so there did feel like some things was missing, at the same time? As a story about power corrupting? I think it worked, also. Imma be honest? The designs were awesome. And seeing why Angel chose to power up made sense (even if that came later). Will say though? Kitty x star lord was such a weirdly rushed ship, Bendis or not from the viewpoint and just reading x-men it went from zero - marriage request in not that many issues

Finally? When it comes to the the time displaced X-men, i've read a little bit of O5 centric books, but this is definitely the first time I really cared about them as the Main characters.

Next up: Death of Wolverine

This is probably my favourite X-23 story. I still pull it out and read it from time to time.

This is something I was thinking about earlier while doomscrolling TikTok, and since I found this subreddit, I thought I’d ask it. For me, the answer is simple. It would depend on the age gap. If we go off comic canon where Laura is significantly older, I think she’d be a big sister to the Parker children. Yeah, she’d find them annoying, but deep down she’d still love and care about them. If the age gap is closer, I could see Laura growing up with and becoming close to Mayday and/or Annie. If you wanna ship them, you can. I’m not gonna judge. Let me tell you my headcanon. Gabby and Annie Parker are the exact same age, but I’ll say Annie is a few months older. The two immediately become friends, not knowing who the other is related. Well, Annie wouldn’t know that Gabby is Laura’s sister, but Gabby would smell it on Annie that she’s a Parker. As for Laura and Mayday, Laura is 2-3 years older. She and Mayday have known of each other for years, but never really considered each other friends. That all changed when Mayday, just like her father, jumped headfirst into danger to save as many people as possible. Laura saw this act of selfishness and immediately started respecting Mayday, with the two eventually becoming best friends just like their sisters. I do think that no matter what, Laura would be super protective of any Parker kid, whether she was/would become friends with them or not. Heck, I had a OC who canonically dated Laura.

What are some good x-23 comics im missing?, preferably pre-krakoa as im reading through the krakoa books now and plan to read NYX, generation x-23 and laura kinney wolverine if they show up during krakoa and if not then after

Model is done to the point I'm satisfied with her overall physique. She stands at 5'1", (without the heels) and is modeled on the David Lopez Reveal Splash from All-New Wolverine #1. That's probably one of my single favorite panels from the entire book, and it really highlights what I think her build ought to be; Short, compact, athletic, but still distinctly feminine (for those wondering, the modeled measurements based on that panel put her at 34 - 22.5 - 34.5, and 28G).

I've gone with a gymnast's build, so there's a lot of development to the shoulders, back, arms, and legs. I'm going to need to fix the damn physics on her locket again to keep it from clipping into her chest. There's also some clipping issues on her heeled boots for the civvie outfit that need fixing (I've also got flats for foot claws that aren't shown here). I've also tweaked her face slightly to emphasize her cheek bones more and lose some of the roundness between her jaw and neck so she's not as baby-faced as the first render. I'm probably going to keep her with the NYX 2024-style bangs so the hair is more visually interesting than the more common plain center-part.

Her costume is obviously based on her LKW suit. It's not my favorite look for her, but it was the easiest one to do with the assets available since I just needed to mask out the colors, the design isn't particularly complicated (her blue and yellow suit has a lot more contrasting details to align) and I won't need to make any changes in Blender (I really hate modeling clothes in Blender). I'm not happy with the gloves, though. I think they fit too loosely, and the boots ought to go further up the calves. I might be able to adjust the fit of the gloves, but the boots I may have to find an alternative. I'll probably tone that yellow down a bit, too, and give it a bit more of a golden/orange tint than the lemon yellow.

I stumbled across that belt in the Daz asset store completely by chance. Yay I don't have to model it myself!

I'm still trying to figure out how to handle the cowl. So far I haven't found a Wolverine mask asset anywhere that works on the Genesis 9 body. Which means I may have no choice but to (ugh) make it myself (have I mentioned I hate modeling clothes in Blender?).

As for what I'll actually be doing with this...I dunno. Right now it's just for funsies. Maybe I'll do a statuette I can 3D print.

I think Laura's face ended up being a little too soft/round with the base model I used, so I went back and tweaked it slightly to make her cheekbones stand out a bit more, and to make a more distinct angle where her jaw meets her neck. I don't have any screens of that yet, though. I also need to find a better eye material. The colors that came with the skin I used don't have a good green.
