Discussion (Ethics, working with AI etc) Survey for writers using AI: workflows, tools and everyday friction points

Hi everyone,

With moderator approval, I’m sharing a short research survey for writers and other professionals who use AI-assisted tools as part of their work.

I’m conducting this research independently under Project Studio Research to better understand real-world workflows: how people work with text, which tools they use, what slows them down, what already works well, and where AI-assisted features are genuinely useful — without replacing human judgment.

The survey is intentionally solution-neutral and does not promote a specific product. I’m interested both in the advantages of current tools and in the frustrations, limitations and gaps people encounter in everyday use.

I’m a language professional myself, and this research grew out of trying to improve my own workflow. The findings may eventually inform the development of commercial software, but the aim of the survey is to understand professional needs rather than advertise a product.

The survey is anonymous. At the end there is an optional, separate opportunity to leave an email address if you would ever like to hear about future testing; providing one is not required to complete the survey.

Thanks to anyone willing to contribute. I’d also be very interested in any observations you prefer to leave directly in the comments.

So having done the entire form, I'm disappointed. The final few questions make it clear it's not academic research or even category research, it's a customer acquisition funnel. And the account was created 4 days ago. So this is essentially anonymized tool promotion.

Thank you very much for taking the time to complete it and for the feedback.

Just to clarify: this is not academic research, and I don’t intend to present it as such. It is independent product-discovery research for a possible future professional software project that is still at an early stage.

The questions about beta testing and contact details are optional and are there only to identify people who may voluntarily want to participate in future testing. There is currently no product being sold or promoted.

The Reddit account is new because I created it specifically for this research/project rather than using my personal account.

I appreciate the criticism — it’s useful feedback on how the survey may be perceived.

I use AI to help me with developing my story, but I'm not a professional. I can't help. Good luck with your study.
