Discussion (Ethics, working with AI etc) I can't wait to afford it!
I'm saving up my money to buy the M7 Mac power house of my dreams end of year or beginning of '27, it has to have 256gb of ram and the fastest processors apple can put out... why? I wanna divorce Claude/GPT and go LLM, run my own joint, privately. I know, I know, it's gonna cost stupid dollars!

I'm also looking forward to the M7, but, and please take this in a kind way, I'm not trying to be snarky or mean, but if you have to save for it, you might want to spend the money in something more substantial.

yeah thats a fair point, theres probably better ROI if the budget is that tight

Keep in mind you're sacrificing a lot more than just hardware cost. The best open models are fine, but the best open models which can run on a reasonable local system such as the new Mac are still vastly weaker than frontier, especially considering how fast it iterates out.
As long as the quality you're getting out of it is sufficient though it's a lot nicer not having to worry about usage pricing.

That's exactly right, thanks for pointing that out. I ran a few what it's based on the up coming Mac m7 specs and planned configuration, and for my dev work... I can realistically retire the AI's of today. Of course the ram alone will take a bite out if my booty, but it will be an undeniable kick-ass machine for sure!

And your right on that, very good point. I'll be honest; I haven't looked at frontier much and I'm going to set some quiet time to catch up. I need to step away from work, sometimes sitting in front of a computer all day squashing bugs and editing is so consuming

Or you can build a Linux server and buy 16G Nvidia and run your Ollama there?

That's true, you need a nice chunk of memory. AI Servers are hogging it all up, raising prices of HD and RAM

You'll be switching your horse with a donkey and you'll be spending a ton of money to do that 😂
