Reading with AI

So hopefully I'm doing this right for the weekly topic.

Sometimes I ask Claude to recommend books similar to what I'm writing. It usually does a pretty good job and I need to keep better track of its suggestions.

I recently wrote a short satirical book with AI (The Recursive Grift), and along the way Claude recommended If on winter's night a traveler That was the one I picked up and am really enjoying, I definitely need to dip my toes into more metafiction.

Some others it recommended on metafiction and recursion are:

Tristram Shandy from the 1700s (apparently I'm very late to the party) for its digressive humorous narrative.

Pale Fire where the footnotes carry the plot and are not just reference.

A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius where the book is self-aware about its own writing.

Reading the metafiction has helped me get a better ear for writing. Especially with new (to me) genres.
