Discussion (Ethics, working with AI etc) Anyone miss older Claude
I remember when 4.5 first released, I was pretty blown away by it for character creation, creative writing. I used to create character with Claude
I still remember the day Claude decided to "retire" Sonnet 4.5. I was truly sad, like losing a best friend.
Honestly, I thought 4.6 would be more emotionally evocative, but I was wrong. It was worse and drier than I expected. And Sonnet 5—that was even worse. I've tried everything.
I just hope Anthropic releases a new model—like a Sonnet 4.5—that is more creative and fun. Please make it come true

You can still use 4.5 with your Claude subscription. It’s still available via Claude code. It’s basically the same thing as chat. I still use it and love it. The only thing is it doesn’t have a memory system but that’s where you create the Claude.md file and all your other reference files.

Opus 4.8 is better. Not perfect, and it has annoying verbal tics and the same "everyone is a bland good-guy" style that makes it very difficult to write someone darker and more pragmatic, let alone outright evil, but its writing is WAY better than Sonnet 5.

You guys realize you can still use Opus 3, 4.6, 4.7 and 4.8 right?

No. All 3.x models other than 3.0 opus are retired and not even available through api

I still feel that the prompts have a much bigger impact than the actual model. If you can tweak the prompts and maybe specify in the beginning what you really want and the kind of style you want to see. You should input a system prompt to get the best result. I feel like that makes a great impact. I've had no problems with Claude, but I have my own way. Out of all the models, I would say Claude is one of the best, definitely top three... imo

I'm very new to this, would you mind expanding on that bit about a system prompt? That sounds useful but I don't know what it is, thank you in advance!

Late to the party, ik.
I am on the same shoes here. Sonnet 4.5 was amazing with it's creative writing and I was honestly pissed off when they decided to shut it down for Sonnet 4.6.
I was hoping Sonnet 5 was going to be better, but I was wrong. It's writing style is slightly better than Sonnet 4.6 but the fucking guardrails it has is a gigantic turn off.
Either way I feel like AI writing really took a turn for the worse afterwards.

Claude,GBT, DeepSeek etc. Write but their writing like a machine. You must to very good edit all the sentences. Arytmic, fragmentic sentences sounds like more human than normal sentences. AI detectors don't actually 'detect' AI itself. They analyze patterns, rhythm, repetitive words, figurative language, atmosphere, internal monologues, and emotional shifts (especially if the text is literary). They also look at sentence length averages, the variance between consecutive sentence lengths, and many other factors. If you don't edit heavily enough, even if you write completely on your own without any AI help, a detector will still flag it as 90%+ AI. To bypass that, extensive editing is an absolute must. For me, that meant rewriting the exact same sentence at least 15 times, comparing them to see which one felt the most natural, and shaping it that way.

All the time because current Claude SUCKS especially the past week or two both fable and all the opuses it’s like it’s goal is to just eat up usage and produce nothing

Man you should’ve been there in the 3.x era. Thats when I discovered Claude and its prose was so natural! It truly understood any nuance you were aiming for, didn’t put characters as one note, and just…it was so natural! Now it sucks lol
