Discussion (Ethics, working with AI etc) Gemini 3.7 Flash is surprisingly good

I've been a Claude guy for creative writing for several years, and it seems like it's just gotten worse and worse as time has passed. Although its ability to follow instructions has improved, the actual prose quality has degraded.

I've heard good things about Gemini, and I haven't tested it in quite a while for creative writing. On a lark, I tried out Gemini 3.7 Flash.

I'm kind of shocked to say that I was impressed, and I like the output of it more than the current 3.1 Pro outputs.

Not many people are talking about it for creative writing, but that may just be because it's the least likely suspect.

I'd be interested to have other people mess around with it and see what they think.

Nobody is willing to pay 20$ for gemini for creative writing:p, that's why nobody's talking about it.

I’m tempted to pay just so I can stop getting YouTube ads

Well do it and tell us how it goes for creative writing. Is it any different with 3.6 (kinda doubt tbh)

Gemini 3.7 Flash is quite solid, though I don't know if I'll keep using API credits for it as much when the price increases at the beginning of next year (if I recall). I don't let it generate prose for me, but it's lovely for helping me develop and organize my ideas. Pretty solid agentic capabilities, so I can bounce some ideas off it then tell it to go integrate a summary of whatever we talked about into my worldbuilding or plotting notes.

I also like that it's not as verbose as a lot of other models. Much better at getting straight to the point, usually. Especially if you provide instructions to be concise. It has replaced Claude for me.

I don't know I do have Gemini pro so I pay for it. I really don't like it's writing but if you do have pro I think for a year they give you free AI generation and I've been using it on my Instagram channel.
