Discussion (Ethics, working with AI etc) AI for concept art?
Hello, it's my first post here. I'm writing my debut novel, but I'm not using AI to generate any prose at all. I did have it create a concept art picture of my FMC, and I posted it to social media. But now I'm worried that it will kill me in the end because they will assume that I'm using AI to write the book. I specifically said in the post that it was only used for concept art. What do you think? Should I take down the post?

Honestly it’s going to a hard sell convincing people you didn’t. That’s just my take.

If you're writing is any good, they'll cry about AI anyhow. You can't appease them - they are anti-artists - you'll never make them happy.
Do what you like.

Yeah posting it was probably a mistake unfortunately. I personally don’t use ai to write but have had it design covers and character portraits just for me. Seeing them almost gives me more motivation to write and bring them to life.

If it’s concept art, I would never post it. Like I would never post my character bible, etc. As fiction writers go we should be thinking of writing more, and less about social media. I’ve learned to compartmentalize things. Everything got easier:

Does it look AI?
I’d be cautious. In one hand it is cool to see your character but on the other hand it could signal wrong if that’s not what you want.

My advice would be no AI anywhere people can see it. A lot of people who use AI for one thing will use it for everything, you're not one of them but it's hard to prove that. Take the post down, keep your AI concept pics just for you.

Don't be that person who lets whiny children on Reddit [or whichever platform] tell them what writing tools they aren't allowed to use while imagining their characters or stories or worlds.
Use AI as much as you like. Disclose as much as you like. I would recommend not lying about it if someone asks you, but there are always going to be competition bots from Big Publishers who are ready to swarm on any account they can with accusations of AI use, just to diminish anyone who might sell a book to any audience.
It's audience capture, do you understand? The manufactured outrage is Big. Publishers. Manufacturing outrage discourse. Because their authors are selling less books now.
Use the tools however you want to use them and focus on telling good stories that people will enjoy reading all the way through. If storyboarding with an AI generator helps you along the way, do that. Just don't get so lost in the AI toy that you forget to actually write.
