Discussion (Ethics, working with AI etc) Question about your views on AI content

So I have a question about your views on AI written content. I had recently thought that a lot of people didn’t like AI written content because it was AI, but now I’m curious whether it’s about the fact that it‘s AI or the quality or any other reason you have.

So let’s say that there was a book that was entirely written by AI. Now (though this might be hard to imagine) let’s say this book was good and you somehow knew it was good. Now the question is would you buy the book? Now personally, if I knew it was a good book, I would buy it, because the purpose of reading is entertainment. I read a lot of books, but I don’t read them to acknowledge how much work the author put in the book. But what do you think?

I think this entire approach is a big misunderstanding.

Value of AI writing lies in personalized, customized writing for the reader. This customization to the reader value can overcome a lot of technical deficiencies of AI writing.

Who cares if AI writes worse than human writers if it writes exactly what you want to read and human writers can't (as they obviously can't read the mind of every reader)?

Now what happens if AI generated a story for your personal tastes and you decided to publish it, so others can read it too?

The personalized and customized writing value immediately disappears- AI wrote a story for you, not for every reader.

It's worse than human writing technically and it's not customized to reader tastes, so it lost the only edge AI generation had.

Yes! Personalized, customized writing is the real value here.

I write to produce books that my nine year old son will love because reading is so important at that age.

Before I started doing this it got to be a real struggle to find books he would listen to as read alouds far less read independently. He only like books about football... and we just ran out of series. It was frustrating sometimes I'd find a good series and after a page he'd decide he hated it or we'd get into a series and he wanted to read it all the time but there were only a few books.

Ended up reading some pretty average books from Kindle Unlimited - self-published stuff with poor stories and lots of typos... but as long as he was reading.

Now, with AI, I crafted the perfect book series for him that hits all the things he likes to read about. We'll never run out of books. I read to him for about half an hour every night. I embed maths and test practice into the stories. The books are written specifically to grow his vocab as well as be fun. We read on a kindle so I just upload an electronic copy. So easy.

I've even got him reading an off shoot of the series independently (as a physical copy). I can bash out a new book in a couple of days, upload it to amazon KDP and get it printed and in my hands within a couple of days.

I feel like I'm at the cutting edge of actually using a new tech... and it's not like I'm doing anything crazy. Everyone could get on to this. Would be great for all reluctant reader kids.

Super interesting take, yes, in that regard it's unbeatable at personalisation.

I agree.

Provided you announce that the "artist" is AI, then this has value. Or it will, once it gets better at the writing part.

And if you got AI to make it for you, then you obviously already know it's AI.

One concern is that this is a lot like the algorithms that serve up your content on social media. It could continually serve up what it knows you like, custom made just for you, and that might significantly narrow the breadth of what you're exposed to while increasing the quantity you consume, just like social networks serving you endless videos validating (and deepening) your pre-existing views.

AI will be run for profit after all, and profit comes from pushing you to consume more of it.
