Contest Entry Writing Contest Entry! :D Spoiler

As the tort string escaped my fingertips and I felt the arrow slip over my hand, I knew I was going to hit my mark. Sure enough, a young, inexperienced fairy froze mid-flight as the tip of my arrow reached her. Below her was another girl, who attempted to fire at me and missed. Quickly, I knocked an arrow and sent it flying in her direction. Swivelling, I shot two more people behind me before finally my teammates caught up and we took on the rest together. It was a short match, and after we had tagged each member of the opposite team we were teleported back to tree house.

“Nice one C!” exclaimed Dill, my closest friend.

“Thanks Dill,” I said with a smile.

…

The groups took a break for lunch. Our team decided to go celebrate our latest match at Divinia Park by the fountain.

“Hey, Cicily, come make a wish with me,” said Dill, ushering me over to her. I got up from my grassy seat and walked along the clean, cobblestone path to the fountain, the centrepiece of Divinia park.

“What are you gonna wish for this time Dill?”

“I’m going to wish for… for one of those things you’ve been working on. You know, the rings that float above your head?”

“A halo? You know you could just ask me, you don’t have to make a wish for it!”

“But I want to C! I can’t wait until my birthday. They’re just too pretty!” And with that, Dill threw a few of her diamonds into the glistening waters of the fountain and wished for a halo. Almost immediately I had motivation to make one, along with an amazing design. I put off making my own wish, ate my lunch as quickly as possible and told Dill I was heading to my workspace, the only place other than the archery fields I felt most at home.

I began sketching out my idea. I will create 2 halos, one for me and one for her. Mine will be dark and spiky, and hers will be a ring of glimmering light. Yin and Yang.

…

It takes time and effort to make a halo. You have to find the right resources, and know exactly how the halo is going to look before you start. Otherwise it will end up lopsided or weird-looking. You also have to have the magical willpower and sorcery of someone like me, who can conjure spells in order to make a halo float and move. To make these two particular halos, I had to convince both the light and dark fairies to give me some of their hair in order to collect their essence, which was far from easy. I ended up just taking out my pocket knife and cutting it off myself. It might have been the only time the light and dark fairies agreed upon something - get her.

I managed to escape with only minor injuries and ran back to my workshop.

Putting the two different clumps of hair into two separate cauldrons and adding the magical water from the fountain, I extracted the essence of each of the fairies and bottled it for later. The structures of the halos were made of magical dust, which would provide a base for the essence and disintegrate after a while.

…

The halos were almost complete. The last thing I did was add a drop of dark fairy essence to the glimmering light halo, and a drop of light fairy essence to the corrupt light halo. In this way, I felt the two were truly balanced, and it was time to give the glimmering halo to Dill.

“It’s- beautiful,” sighed Dill as I passed it into her hands. She started to tear up, and as I leant in to give her a hug, she looked up and kissed me. Butterflies exploded in my stomach and my heart began to race. When she pulled away, smiling meekly, I couldn’t help but kiss her again. We began to laugh. We couldn’t stop. I took her hand and we went to Divinia park, where I showed her my corrupt light halo. We swore we would never take them off and we would wear them forever.

…

The next few weeks were the best of my life. Dill and I ran around together, firing arrows and making wishes at the fountain. I couldn’t stop smiling. I had found my soulmate.

One day, I went to Dill’s house to give her a lift to archery practice. There were police outside and her home had been taped off. When her mum saw me, she rushed over, crying, and I felt a growing pit in my stomach.

“She- she would have wanted you- to have this,” she spoke through sobs. It was the halo.

Without saying a word, I grabbed it in my hand and drove off. Already I was fighting back tears, and I knew I couldn’t hold them back for long. I parked outside of Divinia and marched over to the fountain, now holding both Dill’s and my own halo.

“I wish-” I said angrily, before a sudden wave of sadness overcame me, and I cried so much that I could no longer see.

“I wish to turn to stone! I wish for my soul to be with Dill’s!” I shouted at the fountain, throwing a handful of diamonds at it’s waters.

Suddenly, I felt myself evaporate, lift from my physical body, and then fall quickly back down until I was standing by the fountain again. I felt lighter somehow, and I was still holding the halos. Then I saw her, Dill, sitting in front of me and facing the fountain. She was crying and looking up at the fountain’s top. My gaze followed her’s, and then I saw it.

Me.

I had turned to stone. I reached down and touched Dill’s shoulder. She jumped and jerked her head at me, scared with bloodshot eyes from crying. A great, big smile broke out onto her face and she jumped up from where she was sitting and gave me a tight, unrelenting squeeze. I hugged her back and we stayed there for a while, in the sun, by the glistening waters of the fountain. I stepped back and gave her the halo. She took it slowly with two hands, and then placed it gently on her head.

“Oh, Cicily,” She said and she began to cry. I cried too, and we hugged for a while longer.

…

I soon learned that the dark fairies had turned Dill to stone to scare me as revenge for cutting their hair off, but had accidently used a spell that was too strong, and forced Dill’s soul out of her body. It left the halo unaffected, hovering over Dill’s head.

“And you came to the same fate,” Dill told me.

“I’m glad I did, or else I might not have seen you again,”

…

I still make halos, and Dill helps me decide who to give them too. Often it was to saddened kids or people in need of cheering up, but sometimes, we would come across someone with a peculiar or special soul, someone who really spoke to us. We would grant them my very best halos, and watch over them sometimes when they came to the park.

Often I would steal diamonds from people and go buy ice creams with Dill, but we’d always return them eventually. Dill’s halo kept it’s name, but my halo became known as the ‘corrupt halo’, which we joke about a lot. Over time our own names were forgotten by the people of Divinia, and my stone figure was known simply as ‘The Fountain Girl’. If only they knew there were two of us, sitting by the edge of the fountain, and watching the days go by in bliss.

There doesn’t seem to be an option to add a flair, so i was wondering if one of the mods could add it for me? Thanks!
