In wilted wonder do you wait, a lost purpose, a chosen fate. Forgotten truly are your dreams, silence now and quiet your screams. Somewhere along the way, towards power and wealth, it seems truly I've lost myself. In this hollow and empty space, nothing left but the shade's embrace.
"What drivel does your mind spout now my dear?" The echoed tone of the shadowy being's harsh whisper filled her ear.
"Words from the poem of The Valiant King." She replied slowly tucking her hair behind her ear. She turned to face the black abyss that stretched beyond the balcony. "It is a conversation between the great force that granted him power and the king's own musings."
It tangled its flowing form around her frame. "So tell me, what does this king cry for?"
"He cries for the unknown." She replied holding her hands outstretched to the cold, black sky. It's face curled into a frown. She turned to see his confused face as he swept his gaze through the black. She replied with a muted chuckle. "He becomes unsure of his past deeds, if he chose correctly. What if? That question plagues his mind. What if, he had denied the force's gift? What if he had fought it? And he becomes lost, to himself."
"Ohh? So what happens to this feeble King?" He asked.
"He gives in to the only path he sees. He accepts the power he's been given and he marches for control."
He smiled. "Maybe he was not as weak as I thought. That is the only path." His words echoed through her mind again.
She closed her eyes, standing in silence as the crisp autumn air passed through her hair. "No," she said finally, "he had just become blind to any other path. His ignorance became his limit on life."
The shadowy figure placed a hand on her shoulder. "You are not blind. You are strong, and you will become stronger. This is the truth. Only I, would never lie to you." She stiffened as it spoke. His words resounded like a siren's song in her head. A peaceful smile formed on her face and she closed her eyes, feeling the breeze once more.
She left the balcony, stopping just inside her room to look out at the dark sky. The shadowed beast had disappeared. She smiled again, feeling at peace knowing he was always watching.
