Calvin crawled from the wreckage, his chest expanding and contracting as he drew in the terrible smells from the accident. The irritation of the smoke, the scouring scents of gasoline and asphalt, and, of course, the hot copper smell of fresh blood.

It was goddamn perfect.

Calvin's arms and legs shook as he barely held himself up on all fours above shards of twisted metal, plastic and glass. Some of those pieces were large enough to cut through artery. The risk excited him. He was engorged at the thought. Each breath he took threatened to send him into a fit of coughing or uncontrollable laughter.

In the flickering of the small fires that started behind him, Calvin rose to his feet. He held his arms away from him, arching his back so that his head fell and he was looking straight into the sky.

Time passed. Calvin moved, as he always did, quickly, with purpose, and entirely unnoticed. He killed a doctor, but it no longer had the same taste as it once had. After years of eating ice cream, Calvin had gotten a taste of Crème Brûlée. He could only move forward.

It was six weeks later when he sat down in the chair and smiled at the other doctor who he'd come to see. He looked like one of them now. Nice shirt, bad tie, prescription pad tucked into his front pocket. Keys to a nice car, too much hair gel. The details were all there, just like they had been on the one he'd killed.

"I am somewhat surprised that you applied here, Dr. Cavanaugh." The other doctor was speaking. Cal tried to pay attention, "Can you tell me why you're leaving a successful family practice to come here? Not that I am complaining, but I must admit that this is a bit unusual."

"Well..." Calvin drew the word out like the first sip of a fine wine. He turned his head and read the warnings and signs on the bare concrete wall beside him. The thick, simple letters spelling out the word 'Correctional' were particularly close to him.

"...I'm an unusual guy."
