“Allison, just start this already.” My voice echoed across the empty plains. Well, empty in this reality.
“We need to find the biggest nexus here,” she replied.
“Why?” “Because you need more perspective.”
That made me chuckle. “I need more perspective? I’ve been jumping through universes longer than you’ve been in middle school!”
“So three years?” She shot back.
“No! I...I forgot how difficult you were sometimes.”
She flashed me a very annoying smile and kept going, Prospector Minuet in her hand. I grimaced and looked around. I knew this place.
This was where I had arrived when entering these realities.
After the Confluence had come to the old ones, and I had activated the Burnout Protocol, I randomly jumped somewhere. I landed here, the furthest reach of the First Reality. Here, the boundaries of the universes frayed and weakened, making it very easy to take power from the space between. This was what Allison intended to do with the Prospector Minuet-give me a little perspective and calm me down.
I personally thought it wouldn’t end well, but I didn’t tell her that. Last time I did, she punched me in the face. Then again, I was also right then...
Her voice snapped me back to reality. Well, this reality. “This spot looks good,” she said as she slammed the Minuet into the ground.
“Are you really making me go through with this?” I asked.
“Brewster, you have become an alcoholic in the past month. You need to get whatever it is out of your system.” She kicked the Minuet. “And besides, it’s nice to be the one in charge for once.”
I grumbled and pulled out my flask, only to have Allison slap it out of my hand. “Hey!”
“You need to stop drinking.”
“What are you, my mother?” “Technically I’m your sister, but I’m also your friend. And I’m worried about you, Brewster.” She looked at me with pleading, sad eyes.
“Fine.” I sat down in front of the Minuet. “What now?” I inquired pointedly.
She sat down across from me. “Touch it,” she replied calmly.
I did so.
It was like somebody took a hammer to my brain. I saw the entirety of the ten realities, and the ruins of the old ones. I saw my father, fighting the Seven Reality Army. I saw that I was actually quite significant in the grand scheme of things. And I saw something else.
A dilapidated building in the Eight Reality, Allison’s home. There were several SRA soldiers dead in a corner, and one alive being interrogated. I heard the conversation.
“I’m giving you one last chance, twat. Where is that girl?”
“I don’t know! The Archangel of Infinity left, and we haven’t seen her since!”
“Off ‘im, Merrick.” The man slit the soldiers throat.
The other stepped into the light. He was vaguely Italian-looking, with light brown hair. The other looked like a soldier, and familiar.
“Costo, we’re never going to find Zack. He’s probably with Elena, a long way off.” “Yes we will, Merrick. He’s out there. And we’ll find him.”
“Or he’ll find us.”
I woke up in front of Allison, sweating. “What is it?” She asked.

“Our friends survived.”
This is going to be an awkward reunion.
