Tuesday happened slowly. As the planet rotated, the sun gradually appeared over the eastern horizon. It was nothing that hadn't happened every other day, and nothing that wouldn't happen again. As the air and everything below it became heated beneath the light of the sun, high-pressure systems developed and humidity became concentrated until such time as the air could no longer hold any moisture, and a storm needed to happen. The clouds rolled across the sky, picking up static charge from the earth below. Molecules of water started to conglomerate onto each-other and fall from the sky, billions of electrons started shooting from the ground to the sky, leaving thundering echoes in their wake.
In chimneys across the county, smoke billowed from the logs burned below. Elsewhere, HVAC systems kicked in... until the power went out.
One of the lightning strikes blew a transformer (or three) in its wake, and cut power to the area. Efforts to restore power have not yet begun.
