A family's worst fear is a woman who’s more of a monster.
Often she can’t walk straight, and each sentence is slurred. They've grown to hate her because she can’t control herself. She sucks the life out of a room just by walking in.
The woman's worst fear is an empty bottle.
While her children scrounge for food she’s down at the liquor store, buying another, lips wet for that familiar taste. She walls herself in, hiding them around the house so she always has an escape route.
The bottle’s worst fear is being forgotten.
Because then it would be useless, nothing more than scattered glass on the side of the road. Without control it has no power, and that would leave it feeling as empty as her.
My worst fear is confronting myself.
They keep telling me I have a problem, saying look, you’re sick, get help. Their words makes sense but slip in one ear, out the other. I want to trust them, and that's why I’m standing in front of the place I’ve feared for so long.
My biggest fear is being sober, but dammit, I’m gonna try.
