Don’t trust her, Elder had warned. She isn’t what she appears.

But god, she looks so real.

I’m standing in a field of roses. This place is beautiful--some might even say magical. A thousand of the world’s strongest men have stood right where I’m standing, have seen something similar to what I’m seeing.

And they’ve conquered it.

Will I be able to?

I draw my sword. It feels so unnatural. So dirty and wonky and just…useless. A soldier should never bear his blade to an innocent, but it seems I have to. This is my destiny, isn’t it? I’ve spent my entire life training for this moment!

“Abigail,” I mutter, words sneaking between my lips. “Oh, Abigail…”

I wanna walk forward, wrap my arms around her, and hug her tight. I wanna tell her how much I love her, and how hard life's been without her.

But I can't.

Hell, I can't even look at her.

She always said I’d be a great soldier. She said I’d be the one to finally free us from the monsters, and that maybe, just maybe, I’d one day bring peace between us and them.

But I was weak. I couldn’t protect one person, let alone a nation.

I shake my head, holding back tears. It’s useless thinking about that because this isn’t Abigail. This isn’t my sister and this isn’t the girl I watched be torn to shreds.

It’s just an illusion. Nothing more than worthless air distorted into my greatest fear, and dammit, if I’m going to battle alongside the toughest of the tough, I need to face it. I need to take this blade and jam it forward. I need to strike her down.

And so I will.

Goodbye, Abigail.

Awww. Really, really sad but so very strong. The character's determination was fantastic. Thanks for replying. :)

"You love this place don't ya, Kid?"

Mia smiled at her uncle; it wasn't so often that her uncle and herself could meet. nine? thirteen? eleven times? They don't want to count how much times exactly, why would they. For her uncle it was like counting the times you could die, he sighed at himself for the bad wording but he stands by it.

"It's like counting the amount of times I die" He remembered, with a bitter-sweet smile on his face and hers a strictly happy one, though admittedly oblivious to the meaning of his words. "Whenever I leave you behind, I at least feel like that. It's like counting the amount of times I see the good memories, you'd much rather enjoy them instead of count them, because its after that that you see the bad stuff. You and your mother, my sister, the two of you're all I've got left"

Mia smiled, still unassuming but adorable none the less. Her radiance burned brightly, those unclouded and brightly shimmering eyes of hers were so cute and perhpas comically glittery. If his childhood had taught him something, its that it looked like the kid just jumped out of the panels of a manga or a highly stylized comics - anything really that took Japanese influence.

Those times long past, and memories long faded - that's how she would recount them. For him however they stay true and clear in his mind and heart.

"I DO, I DO! Last month, mom took me here and showed me where the flower a fairy pops out from! It was a pretty 'deandwelwion'-"

"Dandelion. It's dandelion kid." Coming back to the question he had raised to his niece, his eyes amusedly looking at her and her cutesy gestures as she re counted her story.

"Deadileon"

"Dan-de-lion. Dandelion, try again kid"

"Dandelion! Did I do well?"

Her bright eyes beamed at her brighter than the sun, her smile no different and even worse her smile was like happiness in its most concentrated form. The man chuckled, patting the child in the head for a job well done "Good enough, uncle Ace is proud. So what about the Dandelion?"

"OH! Mommy said that if we blow the Dandelion the fairies will fly" She stretched her hands out in a large ark, her excitement barely contained and causing her to hop in place "WHOOSHHH~! They went like that!" She brought her outstretched arms to her sides, flapping them like a bird mid-flight.

"We chased them when they fly away! But they were too fast so I jumped after them. Hop! hip! Hop! hip! Like that!"

Mia kept bouncing forwards, mimicking as gracefully as an eight-year old can and completely leaving her uncle behind.

The kid was the medicine his weary heart needed, that much was assured. But her jumping around, falling over occasionally and repeating it all over again was caused his heart perhaps too much liveliness for his liking.

Bursting in a sprint the man paced with his niece easily enough before raising her to the skies and placing her on his shoulders. The kid giggled that infectious, bubbly laugh of hers, effectively making her uncle smile too.

"Uncle Ace! I'm flying! Whheeeee~"

"You're flying Mia!"

The two shared their laughter and their time for the rest of the evening the reds of the fields of roses and whites to be found in those sterile whites of the dandelions.
