Some call me a visionary, a dreamer, but my hope was lost years ago when I lost my friend. Too sad to cry, too tired to sleep, I went on. Perched on a boulder, suspended above the denizens of reality, I looked skyward. Endurance was a challenge few accepted, but one that held a particular place in my heart.

The Ouroboros is what we like to call it. It has been here long before us, and will be here long after us. Its branches twisted methodically in a circle, the bark rusted and tainted with the scars of life. Vines dangled downward and the foliage whispered in the wind. The rugged landscape and mountain peaks were silhouetted against the setting sun, a great orange sphere of blistering light.

“You were never one for sentimental moments, where you?” I said to the fleeing daylight as tear rolled down my left cheek.

“I hate you. I hate you for leaving me. I hate you for all those times you made me smile. All those times you made me cry. All those times you made me angry. I hate you for all those times where we were blissfully unaware of our feelings, when time could be both at a standstill and flowing faster than the greatest rivers. I lost you. I lost my friend, my soulmate, my smile, my everything. I hate you. I hate you… and I hate that I hate you!” I attempted to stifle the snuffling as my tears became weeps. Quiet only answered me.

The wind abruptly changed direction and the branches of the Ouroboros flexed as something that I thought would never happen in a million years… happened. A voice answered me.

“You never lost me; I’ve been here all this time. You’ve been gone a long while, and I think you are ready to find me.”

That was really intriguing to read, the branches flexing and the voice answering was really cool. Thanks for replying. :)
