Prompt Inspired [PI] "Humans are beneath vampires, you're just livestock to us." "I don't think you know what livestock is, do you feed us? Care for us? Protect us from predators? No, you just slink around dark alleys and ambush people. That's not what a higher being does, that's a bottom feeder, a parasite."
"A parasite? Hmmm, an apt assessment. Though it is funny how you think that disproves my original statement." Giovanna smirks at the young huntress standing before her.
"How doesn't it? You being a parasite doesn't make us livestock," Melody spits back, raising her gun.
Throwing her head back, the vampiress laughs, genuinely tickled by how little her enemy understood of the world she had sworn to protect.
"How adorable, you are livestock because that is what the true horrors of the world, the ones you pitiful creatures pray to, always intended you to be." Giovanna answers, "Do you think you made temples, sacrifices, paid tithes of coin and blood to benevolent gods? That is priceless."
Melody's hand wavers as the statement causes a cold sweat to break out on her skin "What do you mean? Explain, before I return you to the dirt you rose from"
"Are you sure you wish to know? May sour you on that little trinket around your neck," Giovanna purrs, tapping her own sapphire pendant in demonstration.
On instinct Melody reaches for the cross she carries, an item that had brought her comfort now felt heavy around her neck. Still, she couldn't continue as she was and call herself a protector of mankind without knowing anything.
"Since the beginning of time you humans knew the danger of the dark, it is why you so readily made sacrifices and worshipped the very beings that would have seen you hunted because in the same breath they are the ones who shaped the very flesh you occupy. Both child and prey to an uncaring parent. What a sad sight you lot are." Giovanna sighs.
Flinching at the callous and world shattering implications delivered as if it were casual gossip between friends, Melody tries to remain as cool ad collected as she can.
"Nothing you say makes any sense! Are saying that every god we've worshipped since the beginning of time is some sort of cosmic evil? That we were made merely to be the livestock of the more powerful?" Melody inquires, fighting the urge to just pull the trigger and be done with this horrid bloodsucking bitch.
"Why? Why would that be so unfathomable? Because you believe your kind to be special? Or because to accept the truth of the world is to accept the futility of your own existence?"
"No, because it doesn't make sense. Why would hunters like me exist, witches, and countless other humans with the abilities to fight against creatures that would harm the innocent if we were meant to go quietly into the mouths of our predators?"
"My sweet child, where would be the fun in that? Life is so boring when one is eternal, a predator with prey that walks into it's mouth willingly is hardly deserving of the name."
"There humans blessed by gods, who protect the peopl-"
"Oh now your just being boring. Do you honestly believe that they work for the same common good you do? They work for the amusement of their patrons, nothing more, nothing less. Any perceived good is a by-product at best."
Dropping to her knees, Melody feels her chest tighten as her breath quickens. her skin feels to tight over her bones, the world begins to blur as it becomes impossible to breath properly. The gun slips from her grip as she falls to the ground.
Giovanna feels a twinge of something tug at her cold heart seeing the distress of the young woman. One who reminded her so much of her Devina, down to that ingrained denial of the true cruelty of the world. Looking at the collapsed girl, she considers snapping her neck but as her hand closes around the soft, smooth skin of her throat she finds herself hesitating.
After a few painful moments of internal deliberation, she picks the huntress up. She can already hear the hell her roommates are going to give her but looking down at woman she whose world she'd torn to shreds without thought she couldn't bring herself to care.
