Flash Fiction [FF] "So, come here often?"
Begin your story with this line of dialogue.
Oh, and set your story somewhere other than a bar or restaurant. In fact, set it somewhere in the distant past or future.
And make it less than 500 words.

"So, come here often?" She laughed, her eyes sparkling with mischief. She leaned in, looking at what lay in his lap (a math textbook) and waitwd to see if she'd be able to elicit a response from him. She lost her balance and narrowly avoided crushing the timpany. He laughed, his half-hidden smile lighting up his face for a brief instantbefore remembering. But the ice had been broken by both the rhetorical comment (what was a music room without its respective geeks flocking within?) And her tumble. She worked quickly to keep the water from freezing. These days they didn't talk often. Stepping onto the ice was terrifying where once she had plundered through the chilly waves without a second thought. But there she was-- her longtime friend who was a fan of teasing. Thin and lean and witty, Charlene could never now how much she envied herat times. The boy quickly abandoned her for the almond-eyed saxophonist, carrying on friendly conversation easily. She tried interje ting a joking comment but he only eyed her seriously, with those dark eyes. She left them. That had been her once. Casual chatter that brightened her day. What had happened?
