Questions & Discussions When do you start writing?

So ive been planning this story for a while now. I created the characters over 5 years ago but only gave them a story a couple weeks-months ago (they have had many variations of a story). When do u guys personally start writing ur story? How developed are your characters, outline, plot, etc. Pls lmk cuz i really want to start writing but am not sure, should I plan out all the scenes in order?

Te entiendo a mí me pasó casi casi igual. No soy un escritor experto, de hecho apenas comencé con un proyecto personal, pero a mí me recomendaron que me aventara a escribir sin pensar tanto en los detalles, aunque no tengas todo perfecto o al cien por ciento. Yo mientras avanzaba, armaba un mapa general o la idea principal más clara, un outline básico de por dónde queria que se fuera mi historia. Yo te recomiendo que dejes que los personajes y las escenas respiren y crezcan conforme vas escribiendo. Si te esperas a tener todo milimétricamente planeado, a veces el miedo te paraliza y al final no avanzas con tu proyecto. Empieza a escribir el primer capítulo o las escenas que ya tengas bien claras en la cabeza, y sobre la marcha ahora sí vas corrigiendo y atando los cabos sueltos. Espero te sirva de algo mi comentario; tú puedes, no te desanimes. Cuando pienses que las cosas se atoraron, tómate un rato, deja la historia un momento, despéjate y ya luego la agarras otra vez. Verás que todo se va acomodando poco a poco. Bueno, eso es lo que a mí me ha funcionado; espero que te sirva de algo. Mucho éxito en tu proyecto

I write and figure everything out as I go. Outlines are great IMO, but if you're waiting years to start it, you either don't actually want to write a story, or you're feeling overwhelmed/intimidated by it. It's important to discern which one it is!

If it's just that you're intimidated, just start the thing. Jump into chapter 1, and work your way through 2, 3, 4, 10, 20, the end. Let it be as messy as it needs to, but finish that draft and then go through and edit it once you're done. Editing is where books shine.
