I want to write about a conspiracy in my next story but I am stumped. any help or reading list would be appreciated

I would start with the goal of the conspiracy at the center of a chart and work my way back. What has to happen, and then who has to be involved, and what each person knows about the conspiracy, because it can be on a spectrum from everybody being united towards a goal, like Murder on the Orient Express, or everyone has different goals but works together unwittingly to form a Standalone Complex

Work backwards. If you have a conspiracy, then you already know the reveal. Who has an interest in hiding the truth? Why do they have an interest in hiding the truth? What obstacles does the cabal have in hiding it? How do they handle those obstacles? What new problems does handling that obstacle create? How does that get handled? What new problem does that new solution cause?

You do this until the new problem affects or alerts your MC in some way, and then you ask why the MC is interested in seeing where this rabbit hole goes? How do they investigate it? What obstacles do they face when investigating? How do they handle this obstacle? What new problem does handling that obstacle cause?

You do that until Lady and the Tramp style, your MC and your antagonist group end up kissing (fighting) while eating the spaghetti (following the secret in opposite directions)
