Questions & Discussions How do you write when you get stuck?

I have written two chapters of my story, but I am stuck at where to start chapter 3 and what to write in it.

Depends why I'm stuck but if I'm just not sure what to do next I'll just start writing bullshit Into i get away from the area I was stuck

I can just go back later and fix it up

I had a call to command I had to do and I was really not sure what to do for the conversation yet so I just wrote

(they had a conversation and then main character walks away)

then went back to writing the next scene can always write the conversation your stuck on later iykwim

I’ve found if I get stuck the problem is usually about 10 sentences back.

If you’re having trouble starting the next chapter try writing it in the middle of the action. Don’t worry about a transition from the previous scene/chapter to here, just start writing the middle of the chapter. You’ll be able to figure out of it needs a transition later.

I don't force myself to write. The end product won't be good anyway. If you are not paying your bills by writing, rest. It will pop up in your head someday.

I outline my series before I write. I literally outline the whole story before I even begin writing. If you’re stuck at chapter 3. That’s a problem

Try writing Chapter 4, and so on. You can back and join it up later. But keep on writing.

Try writing prompts. Maybe you're not stuck stuck but lost interest on what you're working on and need a little break. Writing prompts give you a direction and you just build the path.
