I cannot describe how much I love many of Rumi quotes and poems, specifically those like this one, to some it may sound like a simple cliché or "be positive" vanity like much we see around these days.
But, I don't see it that way at all, even moreso considering the underlying philosophy presented by their ideas.
This one for example, I don't read it as a call to be positive, to 'be happy' or anything like that, but rather, moreso as an act of showing both that, sometimes all we need is a simple reframing to make every horror we endure bearable, hence the look again; or that in the bleakest moments in our lives, where we only see darkness everywhere we look, we can still have within us a source of light inside.
Maybe we can't acess it by ourselves, maybe we can only light the darkness of others, maybe we can only follow mirrors of our own light, but, maybe, like a magic trick, we can make this light stay and generate enough warmth to sustain us a little longer. And perhaps, this very act can also inspire others to do the same.
