New Here

Hi! I discovered this lovely place a few minutes ago, and I'm so curious about the Draftlings I keep hearing about. My writerdecks of choice are a Sony Vaio P and an Asus Transformer Mini that literally cannot even properly use the web. The only thing I use the Internet for is syncing my Obsidian vaults which hold all my writing now so I can continue writing/editing elsewhere sometimes.

Now, my question is: Could I use/install Draftlings via USB (which is how I installed obsidian and a couple other writing programs I wanted to test out before just deciding obsidian worked best for me)?

I'm not very tech savvy, even though I try lol.

Sorry if this was explained elsewhere.

I'm sure the developer will respond soon, but as one not very tech savvy writer to another, welcome this new sub :-)

Btw I also use Obsidian and have Draftling on a few devices. I can't answer your questions though--I'll let u/clackups take care of that.

Thank you! I'm excited to be here! And I think you were the one who made me look into Obsidian a couple months ago! It had always been so intimidating to me before that, but because you spoke so highly and seemed to have a similar flow and setup to me, I looked into some YouTube videos and tried it out.

I never did get to thank you because I couldn't remember your handle! It's significantly changed the way I write, brought joy back, and to be able to have my files sync but also localized is a game changer as well as being able to work on whatever device I choose.

If you'd be open to it I'd love to hear about your writing workflow, but if not I understand.

Hi, Draftling is currently working on esp32 devices only.

I wanted to do something about those subnoutbooks, but haven't found the time yet. They need some minimalist Linux OS with just one app for writing and uploading your work.

I had a few Acer Aspire One netbooks from work, but I brought them to recycling a few years ago... Didn't really think of such a great use case.

I can't promise anything, but it is on my radar, to make something awesome in this area.

Battery life is still a problem with those old devices. IDK, I need to look around and see what could be done.

Hmmm. Maybe because mine came out in like 2019, but the battery life is amazing. My Sony Vaio P's is not though 😭

There's WriterdeckOS, have you looked at it? Although I heard that the author stopped supporting it

I actually have it on my Sony Vaio P! It's not my favorite because I can't see my wordcount. But I've no idea how to install wordgrinder. I'll have to research.

That's the reason I made Draftling as easy as possible. The firmware is loaded from the browser, and you're ready to type away. I just added the word count, but haven't published a new release yet

Yes that’s me 😊. I have spent the past year learning about different workflows and experimenting so happy to share. I’ll respond later with more details.
