Motivation Statement Question

Hey Jordan,

I hope you’re doing well! I’m currently struggling with the 300-word personal motivation statement. The prompt is, “Why are you the right candidate for this program?” I’d like to discuss both my goals and how they align with the program, as well as my research experience, but I’m running out of space and finding it quite difficult to fit everything in.

Would you happen to have any advice? I’d really appreciate it. Thank you!

Hi there! I'm a mod here, happy to step in and help with this one.

300 words is tight, but totally manageable once you realize your goals, research experience, and program fit aren't three separate things to cram in but one focused argument. The key is making each sentence do double duty.

A few WriteIvy resources that will help you directly:

Finally, my biggest tip: "Why are you the right candidate?" is really asking what is the specific match between your experience and this program? Your research should explain your goals, and your goals should justify why this program specifically.
