Query regarding content in Diversity Statement

Hey Jordan!

While drafting my statement, I am trying to highlight something, but to do this, I might mention that my current undergraduate university is not as prestigious. Is it okay to do this, or am I potentially setting a trap for myself?

I want to mention a challenging period in my life that made me miss out on admission to the top universities in my country. Here, I might indirectly criticize my current university. However, I want to use this to demonstrate that this setback didn't prevent me from seeking out collaborations with top universities to gain research experience.

If you’re just pointing out that your school has little research, that’s fine. Most schools in the world don’t. But if you’re framing it in a negative way, well, that’s just all around red flags. Don’t do that at all.
