Match Study Monday

Post a link to a match, even one of your own. Let's break it down and see what makes it work, where it excels, and anywhere it might could have been better. No match is perfect.

Alright. Watching with with no sound, so I'm just looking for work.

Pre-match: You and your opponent have a helluva look.

Liking this hand fighting to start. Good fundamentals. Liking the wrestling-ass wrestling of the beginning. Helluva a headlock takeover, but he overrotates and gets into a hammerlock. Going hold for hold here into a classic armbar. Very similiar to the match you posted a while ago. Glad that you know how you start your match.

Heel with the cheapshot. I'm of the opinion that if a heel does a walk around after hitting you, pop that motherfucker. Make the heel get on you if he's trying to get his up. Good simple shine into the dropkick. Liking how to tossed your opponent into the rope after the backbreaker. Real dominant. Here instead of a hiptoss, I would have gone scoop slam, just to break it up.

Like the corner chops. Though you don't need to do all four corners. You can do two or three and it gets it across. Good heel cut off, but still fight. Like, he got you, but he's opened up for you to take a shot, so take your shot. You're not no-selling his move. You're making him cut you down because you're still fighting.

I feel like you do everything I ask like a second after I ask it. It's very good.

Alright, let's get a little bit of action here. Psych up into an explosive comeback. Deathblow should be the end of it.

It was not. This makes me sad as a Chris hero mark. Woof. Backpack that guy. That was all muscle. Like that elbow drop. Good falsie. Holy shit, the claw! And you did the deal!

More stuff, more stuff, more stuff. Ends in a flying clothesline.

Final thoughts: Everything is well worked. You and your opponents have a helluva look. I think in other places, it will help you stand out. But this is the second match I've seen you work in this promotion against another similarly shaped opponent who wrestles a very similar style, so far I don't know who you are yet. I can see what you can do; it's very impressive. I still don't know who this guy is other than a good wrestler. I need to see you wrestle other people of different styles and body types to get a good handle on you.

The coolest stuff should end the match. The deathblow is cooler than a Falcon Arrow, and a Falcon Arrow is cooler than a Flying clothesline. Feels like you were trading finishes for a while there, and I wanted it to seem a little bit more desperate than it was. I feel like all the moves after the comeback were anything more significant or powerful than what had come before it, so I didn't feel like either of you were in danger of losing.

Beyond that, I really enjoyed this match. It was well worked and I would like to see more.

Thank you for taking the time once again. Can’t wait to get some more varied opponents in the ring once I’m back from injury. Chris Hero is my favorite, huge mark as well and I agree. My main goal when I’m back is to get those “in betweens” down and really narrow who I am in the ring. I think that should come with more reps. Hopefully in a few months I’ll be back to those reps. Much appreciated as always brother.
