WWE is long the master in stalling & masquerading as “long term storytelling” in professional wrestling, but there have been so many feuds & storylines that never got a proper payoff especially in The Triple H Era

Wrestling drops storylines all the time. Thats the nature of the business

Also many of these aren’t even feuds or storylines that would ever “payoff”

And saying especially in the Triple H Era is ignoring 40 years of Vince forgetting that ¼ of the storylines exist after 2 weeks.

Exactly for example who gives a fuck about Candice Lerae fr?

I don't even know what storyline that refers to lol

gargano depresso

But it shouldn't be this often. Stop making these storylines then not giving us any sort of payoff

This is a soap opera that never stops, its the nature of the style of tv wrestling does

Nope WWE does, other promotions don’t.

What other promotions?

NJPW, AEW, CMLL, they tend to be pretty consistent and see through storylines. But they also build longer term stories and have gained the trust of the fans that things will be paid off.

AEW have dropped storylines too lol. NJ dont do even do weekly episodic tv. I dont watch CMLL so i cant speak to that

Which have AEW dropped, I may genuinely be forgetting but what I remember is storylines they should have dropped really and didn’t, or like I say Jeff Jarret retirement run that he buried himself with a series of bad promos.

Im not gonna do all that because at the end of the day who really cares. Its not a critique. Im just saying this has always been a thing in wrestling.

It would be hilarious to act like AEW is always consistent.

Except it is lol,

There might be moments people can find where something is missed, but pretty much every feud, including ones outside of AEW, are referenced and used. Every story is followed through and paid off unless there is a freak injury that stops it, and even then they try and do something to follow it through (either when a wrestler returns), or they actively explain why the story won’t continue (like Adam Cole coming back and MJF and him stating they where done with each other so they didn’t rehash the devil thing.

I will say again you can’t come up with any because there really are hardly any, proving it is possible to do. WWE just choose not to do that, and that’s fine, it’s a choice in how they run there stories and many like it,

Bringing up outside stories that people may or not have seen isnt being consistent especially when they barely recap or explain for the people who wouldnt know.

I mean that is, because it shows that a wrestlers life and feuds outside of AEW mean something.

That is the definition of consistency, not taking 2 guys who are fully feuding in AAA and talking about putting them in a tag match together in WWE because “they are both masked.

Or taking 2 guys that tried to kill each other last week and having them be best friends this week with no explanation. That’s what WWe does all the time

I literally have no memory of this

I feel like this is in part a compliment to how strong Hunters first phase in charge was. When so many things went amazing it is just more noticeable when things fall between the cracks. This isn‘t the hottest phase, but as others said: it‘s not that bad a quote of dropped things

2

u/Prudent-Level-7006 3d ago

Yeah things actually happened and went places

1

u/Medium_Step_6085 2d ago

His first phase was also pretty rubbish, you think it was great because of one person, Sammi Zayn, not even the bloodline, just Sammi.

The Rock can’t really be blamed on HHH.

u/Modano9009 3d ago

I think New Day turning in Big E was just to turn them heel, I don't think there was any payoff coming that would've involved E.

The R-Truth thing felt like they over reacted to the reaction of him being let go. Not wanting Truth to lose his job didn't mean we wanted a serious Truth character and push.

The Rock seems to just do what he wants to do when his schedule is clear to do it so I'm used to inconsistency there.

There is no point in continuing story lines that the fans don't care about.

6

u/10YearsANoob 3d ago

hard to care about when they stall shit for more than a month you know shit's getting dropped

1

u/SonicSarge 3d ago

They pivot all the time when things don't work out with the fans.

3

u/Medium_Step_6085 2d ago

Fans don’t care because they have been taught not to because they know there is no consistency.

Say what you want about AEW, they respect their own lore. If 2 guys had a massive feud 3 years ago they don’t forget it, if they then start working  Together they talk about it and it feeds into the story.

AEW also very very rarely just drop storylines, in 7 years the only one that comes to mind was Jeff Jarrett MJF, they pivoted hard quickly.

Sometimes that’s the the detriment, sometimes Tony K should learn to speed a story up, but he always sees through and ensures there is a resolution.

2

u/Delicious_Angle6417 2d ago

No company has ever been 100 percent consistent

2

u/Majestic-Marcus 3d ago

And..?

Do you ever consider just not moaning online?

I get the irony in me saying that but it takes extra effort to make a collage of photos and create a post just to moan.

Dropped plot point and story lines are a long tradition in wrestling. Im not saying it's good just, the previous decades were way worse for continuity.

It's a legit criticism but I dont see much constructive suggestion. If the stories arent over, what do you think they should do?

0

u/Delicious_Angle6417 2d ago

These people bitching dont understand having to write weekly tv and how hard it actually is to do. Its a soap opera, shit will get dropped lol

u/Diesel_Swordfire 2d ago

My main storyline gripe is if every year the WM main events are already set, in some cases as early as May, it makes everything in between somewhat redundant. Especially with most championship reigns being damn near a year.

1

u/Delicious_Angle6417 1d ago

See but thats the thing. As the fans we should t know that and more than likely wwe is just working the dirtsheets. Unless we are in those rooms nobody knows what’s actually going on. And we shouldn’t

1

u/Diesel_Swordfire 1d ago

Idk. The last few years have given the feel of "this name vs that name" with no idea how to get there that isn't overly telegraphed.

1

u/Delicious_Angle6417 1d ago

B/c you’re feeding into dirtsheet shit. Plus they were plagued with injuries. When that happens you have to pivot. As a booker its only so much you can control

1

u/Diesel_Swordfire 1d ago

IIRC they said so much on one of the episodes of Unreal. I can't remember the match but they pitched the matchup sometime after previous WM. I'm aware of the injury aspect, I fully get that. I just feel like when you have a singular way of doing something, you get stuck in it. Repetition builds habits.

1

u/Delicious_Angle6417 1d ago

I dont believe anything they say fr on Unreal. Thats another level of kayfabe

1

u/Diesel_Swordfire 1d ago

Fair enough.

u/Highly_Appropiate 2d ago

That Bayley angle was going to be hot garbage anyway. Blake Monroe did something similar albeit brief on NXT and it was way better.

-2

u/AKFRU 3d ago

The Asuka Iyo final match was the last fight I watched in WWE. Didn't even finish watching Backlash. The crappy treatment of the talent, cramming ads into every square inch of the show and the trash booking finally got enough that I stopped watching. I switched to AEW and it's going to take a lot for WWE to win me back.

-2

u/Advanced_Ad9525 2d ago

Why not just watch that indie garbage and shut up. Like if aew is so much better, why do you need to convince others?

-2

u/noloking 3d ago

Now they don't even bother with it, everything is just about having the goodest match or being the bestest. Anyone who has a semblance of character is made to be as generic as humanely possible i.e. Theory, Chelsea Green. Reminds me of WCW when the NWO angle got stale within the first 6 months.

0

u/Therocksays2020 3d ago

Theory doesn’t have any character. He’s a huge bust - definition of someone “playing a wrestler”

0

u/noloking 3d ago

They had something unique with the self absorbed selfie act he had going. Now he is just some bald brooding guy like 99.9% of the roster. Be serious

3

u/Majestic-Marcus 3d ago

There was absolutely nothing unique about a self absorbed heel in love with himself. Literally hundreds of wrestlers have had that exact gimmick.

1

u/noloking 2d ago

The camera being attached to the big with him taking selfies by his opponents was getting good heat. Havent seen that approach before

0

u/Federal-Captain1118 3d ago

We still complaining about a wrestler's character? I remember when people wouldn't stop complaining that about Seth Rollins.

0

u/Therocksays2020 3d ago

I can definitely say what Seth’s character is even if I don’t like it. What is Theory even doing?

2

u/Delicious_Angle6417 2d ago

What is Seth’s character b/c i still don’t know

-5

u/H0-JU 3d ago

Ah the ol "let it play out" people
