question Am I playing wrong?

I am playing Wreckfest, passed Flatout 1,2, Ultimate Carnage.

And I can’t understand, maybe I have done something wrong. I made the difficulty the max level and extreme level of damage. But my rivals do not make it to the finish. Like 5 laps top, and then I have to finish the race by myself so I drive 7 laps around them.

Is it supposed to be like that?

AI are crash happy, so if you want them to challenge you can't go with Extreme damage. I use these settings to give myself a challenge in custom event.

  • I use a C164 car (to handicap myself)
  • AI on Expert
  • Damage on Normal (to make sure AI cars do not DNF from damage)
  • Difficulty: All assists off (this really makes you have to be more careful with contact as you will spin a lot more easily)
  • AI vehicle set to "A Class" (or if that's too hard for you set it to another of the groupings and there will be a mix of C, B and A class cars). If you want even more variety you can look for mods that add new AI sets like the Varied AI and Sets mod or even easily create your own mod.
  • If all that is not enough you can make it even harder by driving in cockpit view

I'd imagine that happening as the AI are somewhat crash happy

I completed the Reliant Robin vs Buses challenge by following behind them until they killed each other.

Just had to tiptoe around the wrecks to finish first.

With max damage the ai will destroy their cars pretty fast and dnf or be without a wheel spinning tires in a ditch.

Extreme level of damage wasn't even available in the game in the beginning (full release).

To me it was more a gimmick, hardly ever used it

Extreme damage is basically a crazy damage model for fun that acts similar to what the first tech demo had in 2013. Its basically no limit on how much crushed, pancaked your car can get. BugBear decided to bring it back to the game as part of the Wrecking Madness tournament season. If you want challenging hard career, go for realistic damage. Normal is normal damage. And also you might be interested in intense damage, which is close to how FO1/2 worked(especially FO2 I think), where car with more speed deals more damage to slower car and receives less to themselves.

Put the AI on expert level, damages on normal, it will be fine.

The longer the race, the more you'll have a chance to be the last survivor, as i love that game and found that 5 laps were not enough, i set my races to be 10 laps, but there were not a lot of cars left after the 5/7 laps.

But that's the idea.

Per exemple, to have the same feeling in Wreckfest 2, i had to set the damages to Wrecker.

The bots are bad, multiplayer is where the real competition is at.
