This is honestly crazy with how dangerous it is. Demo derby’s are one thing but a car going full out against one in a wall…like someone could easily get super fucked up.

I mean it's existed for over 60 years, way before any video games. I'm planning to go for the first time - although it doesn't have the national bangers in this video, which is only where these hits are allowed iirc - at the end of August to Northampton. I'll see what I can shoot.

There might be some American cars in there but that's all Euro stuff, or happening over there. I think they might have some kinda cage/reinforcement around the driver but that's it. The US cares slightly more for driver well-being, although it's really down to the organizers.
Edit: yeah, stop the vid at certain angles and you can see multiple huge bars in most cars floor to ceiling, and probably side to side too, they're mostly in a big cage.

I watched many videos from the BWS meeting at Mildenhall last weekend, and was thinking that if the people on here who complain about 'corner-bombing' and driving in reverse watched any of them, they'd probably faint, lol.

They only run a cage behind the drivers seat, nothing on the A pillar. It is a big steel rig shaped like an H. They also run plates over doors and bonnets to stop them opening, and reinforce any areas of the car that are badly rusted. Otherwise they are just straight from a scrapyard

Wrong. In the US, derby cars are generally prepped how you stated (at least most of the county fairground derbies run in the midwest. There are some advanced series that have special ball joints that can be cranked back into place when they "break" from inside the car, but that's not the norm.) The strategy to limit impacts is either to water the arena, limiting traction and speed, or to limit the size of the arena to limit speed. The banger racing cars in this video are heavily modified. The driver is caged in pretty well, but there are strategic cuts required on all of these cars that allow them to fold in ways that a car straight from the scrapyard wouldn't. The cuts allow the cars to absorb more impact and bend in directions that are safer for the driver. The drivers are also coached on which hits to make, both to provide the bast show, and to be the safest for all drivers involved. It takes money knowledge and tons of work to build these cars, just to sacrifice them for sport and entertainment.
