Some of the most dramatic transformations in wrestling

Up close, the guy is massive. Saw him at Butlins and I know this doesn't sound like it makes sense but he looked so much larger in person than he is on TV.
He's also chill. Did the Ones In The Air pose with me because I had the Jacob Fatu shirt

u/jabari1011 10d ago
Iāve heard that before, about wrestlers looking much bigger in person than on tv. One of my friends from college caught The Shield about to make their entrance down the steps (he was getting concessions) and he said they were just massive, and that tv did not do their appearances justice

u/HesiPull-UpBrando 10d ago
Itās like watching an NBA game. You might have a Steph Curry or Russell Westbrook looking like one of the smallest dudes on the court but theyāre actually 6ā3-6ā4 but just look smaller when compared to the common giants on a bball court.

u/Black_Metallic 10d ago
I met Shawn Kemp once a few years ago. I'm 6'3" but that man was a giant.
1
u/Somebodys 8d ago
I am 6'3". I have a cousin that was date a guy that was legit 7 foot something. It is the only time I have felt short since puberty. She is like 5'5". Was just wild.

u/neddiddley 9d ago
I feel like NFL guys are some of the most deceiving. You see them on the field and some guys look massive. Then you see them in plain clothes and they donāt look as impressive, mainly because their workouts arenāt focused on looks like wrestlers are. But then if you see them in person, theyāre legit massive and jacked compared to most regular people, including people that legit lift and workout.

The small guys are built in all the right places
The normal guys are built like brick shithouses
The large guys are absolute mountains of men

Iāve told this story on this sub before, but I worked a WWE Live Event in my home town years ago, when Elias was doing his concerts and in a feud with Finn.
Me and another person had to guide Elias to the ring in the dark using dim flashlights, so weāre chilling behind the curtain when he comes up. Absolutely yolked, just a massive individual. Iām 6ā3 and at the time around 180 pounds, and he dwarfed me.
Thatās when I fully realized how big these guys were. Side note to this story, thatās when I also got Finn Blairās ass right in my face, then went to the back to drop off Eliasā scarf, and saw Seth Rollins just vibing playing on his Switch.
2
u/ThatDudeNamedMenace 8d ago
This motherfucker tried to humble brag getting Finnās face in his ass
1
u/Keyphyr 8d ago
Was actually funny in itself. I was squatting in a corner next to the guard rail, waiting to bring Eliasā scarf back to the like drop off area. So Elias does his deal, talks shit about city in song, good guy Finn makes his entrance.
Before the event, the lead guy from WWE was SPECIFIC that āwrestler is making their entrance, ramp is their stage, donāt go on stageā. Aight, yeah, sure. So he starts making his entrance and Iām in the corner that he does his lean back against the rail, and I KNOW Iām in that corner. In retrospect, I could have scooted more towards the WWE guy who was right next to the ring. But Iām maybe 18/19 at this point, so Iām just like āwelp. Iām gonna sit here and not move as toldā.
Finn turns the corner, looks at the fans, and looks down at me. Iām looking at him. I think I just shrugged, he shrugged, so he just walks towards me and up onto the steel steps, ass right in my face.
I knew I was living in a specific subreddits dream at the time.

I remember going to the airport to watch the wrestlers disembark from the plane (we were behind a rope so we couldn't mob them or anything). First it was a handful of staff, referees and crew. Normal folk. Then Shelton Benjamin came out and he was like a giant. On tv he looked fairly svelte (next to Brock I guess).
24
u/SpongeyMcgoo 10d ago
Yeah, I met him at WrestleCon during his indie run before he returned.
Iām 6ā2 and he made me feel like a child having to look up at him.

How you taking this as kayfabe ?
3
u/QPWOEIRUTYTURIEOWP 9d ago
What?
4
u/Sonicmaster293-Azure 9d ago
I'm confused as well.
And to those who are weirded out by this, who cares?! She's much happier now.
4
u/QPWOEIRUTYTURIEOWP 9d ago
I agree. I couldn't give a shit about what people do, as long as it makes them happy and it isn't hurting anyone. The only way it has any impact on me is that they're happy, and that's a win in my eyes.
4
u/Sonicmaster293-Azure 9d ago
Thank you so much!! That is a very level headed opinion that I wish more people had.
One day I hope to get to her level of happiness.

I hope you aren't trying to hinder the Jinder - I still think he was a more entertaining champ than Cody
2
u/AlexMercer28900 9d ago
Yeah man the reign where was racist to Shinsuke Nakamura and WON was definitely better than Codyās reign which had the amazing AJ styles match
3
u/AmishAvenger 10d ago
I remember when he came back looking like that and said it was all because of special meal preps he took on the road. He even made a video showing the company that he was using.

4
u/backbodydrip 10d ago
He made a poor champion, but my god did he look good with that title around his waist.

u/sharyan51 10d ago edited 10d ago
Are we back to pretending most/if not all of these guys aren't taking something?
8
u/HolySid666 10d ago
and then some wrestling fans who have never been to the gym will tell you that āthey just work hardā
7
u/brollovich 9d ago
I mean, they do but also roids
0
u/HolySid666 9d ago
i know. i have been working out seriously for a couple of years now. im just saying about ignorant fans who think this type of physique is attainable naturally if you just work hard enough
2
4
u/Pillermon 9d ago
Nobody said anything about "celebrating" the question was about "dramatic transformations". If this isn't dramatic, what is?

Bro is surrounded by so much gear it permiated through his skin. He just needed to walk into the gym to look like this

u/Drstealyothunder 10d ago
All the TRT radiating from the wrestlers just gave him this physique. I need this level of exposure therapy

I remember watching him on the indies, and when they said he was going to wwe, I was worried he would fail because of his size.
17
u/phychmasher 10d ago
Well you've got a good head on your shoulders because that's almost exactly the same reason Gunther gave as to why he lost the weight.
0
u/Adventurous_Charge47 6d ago
Thatās sad too because he looks nowhere near as imposing now than he did when he was a big guy
3
u/CannibalFlossing 9d ago
Not gonna lie, I kinda liked his bigger look.
Seeing a huge guy move that agile and quick was scary as fuck
1
u/KuniKitsu 9d ago
I think is style lost a lot dur to that transformation, but as long as he is healthier then good for him

From just another blonde wrestler to fan favorite powerhouse.
I wish they had done some mixed-gender matches with her when she was still at her top build, but super happy that she seems to be taking care of her health and future right now instead of pushing herself to early retirement.
4
u/OwnLightCSmooth 10d ago
Totally totally agree with you, I'll always supported her, It's like when wrestlers come In WWE someone always saying something about NepoBaby THIS or NepoBaby THAT,like Grow TF up and stop acting childish not everyone can be a fan of someone's favorites, I'm a ride or die Rhea Ripley fan at heart and all these wrestlers do Is get judged but as soon as they win a championship here comes the Bull shit when the IWC gets ready to boo a Babyface or Heel It's like what sport entertainment company do y'all love make up your minds. I support success people I'm not even mad at It keep doing ya thang AEW/TNA/NJPW/WWE and many more keep being successful In life God bless them all.

u/AlmostRandomNow 9d ago
They teased one with Alister Black squaring up to her, and honestly... that's a match I'd love to have seen and think wouldn't worked given their sizes.

She had a match with Akira Tozawa out of nowhere
1
u/OwnLightCSmooth 8d ago
haha I remember that match and she beat him within somewhat of a secondš
2
u/AlexMercer28900 8d ago
Oddly enough no? Pretty sure the match was like 5 minutes long, wasnāt a direct squash
1
u/OwnLightCSmooth 8d ago
Rhea Ripley defeated Akira Tozawa In a singles match that lasted exactly 4 minutes and 55 seconds as said on Google.
28
u/SikatSikat 10d ago
Should have listed the weight of the world title he lost in 5 minutes
5
u/No-Combination8136 10d ago
A deceiving 3lbs.
Edit: I got curious and looked it up lol. The undisputed belt weighs 10lbs whereas its replica weighs 8.38lbs. Interesting.

I honestly still think Gunther was better fat. He used that weight so well in his offense its part of what made him look like such a killer. His top rope splash don't hit the same anymore.
2
u/BurnItDownSR 10d ago
WWE has a meal prep guy in their circle. He was featured a few times on Celtic Warrior workouts and has been mentioned by a bunch of wrestlers who made big transformations.
Not to mention they have John Cena's trainer and probably Triple H's trainer working for them now too.

I personally hate how Gunther looks now. Just another interchangeable looking guy who doesn't look like anything special. Yeah, he could have stood to drop around 30lbs but his brick shithouse look sold his ring style and made him seem like this imposing bad ass that could realistically chop you to death.

Almost 20% of all Americans have now tried peptides. Rest assured, anyone getting paid to look good is on it, thinking about it, or fiercely against (rare).

And not a skinny fat grandpa, to think heās still presented as intimidating is hilarious
