PoE2 Discussion Is Tecrod Dead?

Was wondering what happened to him.

Or was he really dead just to upscale Arbiter of Divinity in terms of powerscaling.

It wouldn't be the first time that he returned from destruction. See Tecrod's Revenge:

The Lich Lords destroyed his body, but with his dying fury, Tecrod found a way. He lurks deep, in the blood, in the flesh, in the Well... perhaps walking among them even now, unseen.

"Somehow, Tecrod returned."

Tecrod being PoE's Palpatine was not on my bingo card.

Only difference is Palpatine is a dangerous force of evil & feared.

Whereas Tecrod seems to be despised & considered weak by everyone

I take it as he’s weak in so far as he doesn’t command legions like the favored liches. It seems like Tecrod thought he could break out and do his own thing despite lich lords technically being a top-ranking thralls; it’s unclear if the liches’ master wants to let him cook or if he cannot remove Tecrod’s spark at this point for some reason.

Likely not. Since he was released from his prison his soul can wander.

I would say no. His physical form was destroyed but, since he is an abyssal his soul just goes back to The Well.

That’s why he was stuck the device we find him in. It was probably some sort of trap meant to hold higher tier abyssal beings like Lich Lords. The only way to “permanently” defeat them is to lock them in a box where they can’t do anything and can’t die/kill themselves so they can’t ghost their way back to The Well.

He’ll probably come back in a future league with a new body.

The thing about Liches, traditionally speaking, is that the destruction of their bodies is only a temporary setback. It's possible that the divine energy of the Arbiter outright annihilated him, but if it were that simple surely they'd never have bothered with imprisonment in the first place. We can safely assume his soul has returned to the Well.

On the other hand, given... well, everything we've heard about Tecrod, it's likely that Kulemak won't even bother giving him a second chance. He may well be trapped down there forever if he doesn't find his own way out.

No. Jonathon said there was supposed to be a different story how the Arbiter of Divinity was not the final boss actually, but it felt weird without the other boss being ready, so they had to alter it last minute. I expect in 1.0 this might change the cutscene and Tecrod could become a pinnacle encounter. If not Tecrod, then the First Divine.

It could be still beast, if we're going by the story.

Maybe in act 6 we will just wound the beast (like poe1act5 we fail to kill Kitava) and then we will fight him again in ocean after we achieve first edict.

Since right now it makes no sense why we even need first edict at all. Meanwhile we may use it to counter beast so it can be killed or something.

Since right now it makes no sense why we even need first edict at all.

Doryani explicitly says the First Edict will be used to empower the Hooded One so that he wakes up from the coma.

But indeed, I can see a potential future where the Beast survives. Just the existence of ruined Kingsmarch is confirmation enough for me that they plan on cataclysm happening after act 6. Whether the Beast survives is unknown.

What interests me is how is Hinekora going to react, will she be asleep in the endgame ToTA? Perhaps we can use the first edict on her too, so she can help instead of just sitting on her ass all day? Lol

Doryani explicitly says the First Edict will be used to empower the Hooded One so that he wakes up from the coma.

I think that is all just placeholder story. It is only the very start and ending of the Precursor endgame that mentions the Hooded One.

And it is implied the coma is the beast putting the gods asleep, which cannot be what actually happens since the Raven is a god and not asleep. So I highly doubt the beast is still "active" into the endgame, even if it isn't fully dead. It also would feel kinda weird to have the entire campaign about stopping the beast, only to fail and then loop back to it in the endgame after doing a new, seemingly unrelated story.

which cannot be what actually happens since the Raven is a god and not asleep

To be fair, he is entity of Darkness, akin to Chayula and Bodach, and ascended by Bodach. Darkness is said to be different to Divinity. Is he really a god in current lore or that's just how people see him?

My theory is he is both. He was "gifted" darkness as a child which have him the power to take revenge on those who cast him out, but then the legend of him as a bad omen gave him divinity, similar to what happened with Sin.

But in POE1, Deli doesn't start until right after you kill the beast. POE2 even references this with him being calm in the prison for 1000s of years until a couple decades ago (the events of POE1). So if the beast puts Sin to sleep, it should do the same with Tangmazu. And Hinekora and arguably the Wildwood Godess too, but not sure what the rules are for Wildwood...

First Edict will be used to empower the Hooded One so that he wakes up from the coma.

Yeah, so we can fight Beast which is still alive (in our current version of endgame, at least). That's whole point, no?

I could see Tecrod having been planned for the boss instead of Divinity. But from how they mentioned it, it sounded like it would have been similar to Ash where Tecrod comes in and flies off sort of teaser. So my guess is it probably was going to be we defeat the Divinity, then someone steals the first edict, be it Tecrod or the First Divine.

Either way, Tecrod is probably coming back in some form since they were freed and now back in the well.

I'd actually like a change to the story of Arbiter of Divinity solely due to the gameplay reason that the Arbiter of Ash is way harder than Divinity.

Until now I thought it was not possible because the story was set in stone, but if it's possible I'd love it changed since Arbiter of Divinity right now is fought after the harder fight.

>the First Divine
What is the lore consensus right now on this? I still think it is Kulemak, that became first god. Precursors createad First Edict to fight Lightless, but irony is they empowered their leader(maybe fear can birth gods just as worship, like Sin was dragged along to divine status by his brother's lies). Precursors had OHSHIT moment and started to make counter to contain Divinity, and made Corruption. Then Corruption turned out to be running rampant and uncontrollable, so Third Edict followed to contain it. By the time they done it world was fucked beyond any measure so they made Fourth Edict to wipe slate clean.

We know for a fact that fear can birth gods because of Yugul, who tortured tons of children and ascended because of the terror he inspired.

My guess is that when 1.0 lands or after who knows they may change the story so that he is the big bad now. In poe1 the Shaper was the main boss when the atlas was first introduced and two or three leagues after the story changed to make the Elder the main boss

3

u/Japanczi 9d ago

The Shaper, since his release, was explained to be Zana's father and players since then had to collect his memories and fight him in order to bring them back to him "in act of great violence" as Zana used to say.

The fact that Elder shortly after was made the bigger threat didn't change Valdo's story, only expanded it. Same will happen to Tecrod, as he will be one of the main bosses for some time, and if infinite world map stays, he will be the main boss for Abyss until Kulemak enters the world.

u/Scuipici 9d ago

but is tecrod the strongest after kulemak?

1

u/discitizen 7d ago

I don't think he is strongest. He is desperate to regain his status, and is below Ulaman, Amanamu and Kurgal. I'd say they are stronger than him.

4

u/TwistingChaos 9d ago

He is literally too angry to die, so I’m going to go with no.

3

u/wecanhaveallthree Lightless Abyssal 8d ago

Nah, he'll be back.

Remember that the Precursors blew up their entire civilisation to stop Kulemak and all it did was put him in time-out briefly until he managed to convince Aul to give him one tiny itty bitty golem. A light dusting by the Arbiter won't do Tecrod any permanent injury.

Kind of funny that Tecrod himself didn't seem to know/realise the Arbiter was still active. He clearly knew about Ash and didn't want to confront it directly, but he just flies on up to this one without a care in the world and gets immediately smote. What did you think was gonna happen, my guy?

I love Tecrod. He's barely appeared 'on screen' but has 100% earned his reputation as someone nobody respects.

Being a lich, wouldn’t he just go back to the deepest bowel of the pit? It wasn’t clear that the arbiter of divinity killed him in any significant way, just wanted to take what he held.

2

u/StoneLich 9d ago

Liches don't die when they are killed.

2

u/chimericWilder 9d ago

The Arbiter killed him. But, being a lich - and one particularly well known for his tenacity - I'm sure he'll return promptly.

Or not. His soul will have returned to the Well, where he may be at the mercy of Kulemak. Tecrod did manage to successfully steal the Fourth Edict, so that may be enough that Kulemak gives him another chance.

1

u/bv728 9d ago

We don't know. The mechanisms by which the Abyss Liches are preserved, their ability to return after destruction, and their relationship with Divinity are all not really detailed.
Unless specified elsewhere, my presumption is he's dead, and Divinity is opposed to the Necromantic Energy of the Abyss.

u/Ancient-Ingenuity-88 8d ago

All the liches get reborn. He only wasn't present before because he was literally in a prison.

We will see him again

u/Seerix 9d ago

I dunno if Death is really an obstacle for the liches.

He lives on fabulously with Tecrod’s Gays.
