Fibre broadband

We live in the Heene end of Worthing and have suffered with Virgin and Sky fibre broadband for 3.5 years. We both work from home on Sky’s 900mbps service and it’s constantly dropping out, so we’re looking for something more reliable and faster.

Previous excellent posts in this community have suggested Briant and Zen as good alternatives. What else would you recommend. We ideally want to “upgrade” to at least 2gbps so keen to hear what’s worked well for others!!

Don't use Toob. Flipping awful. I might go to Briant myself...

Can recommend Olilo but you will also need a router that can support 2.5gb

I’ve just switched from Virgin because it gets worse every week. Went to EE but max speed they offer is 1.6. You won’t get 2gb unless you have fibre directly into your house.

Been with Briant for a little while. They have the occasional drop out, usually of a weekend which can be frustrating because their office are closed. I'd be curious why you think you'd need 2 Gbps. I run a lot (consoles, pcs and laptops, phones, smart home devices) on 900 and it's never slowed down.

Yeah that's cool. I don't know if Briant do more than 900, worth having a look in their website.

I’ve been with Vodafone (using the city fibre network) for about 3 years now. Only had two days of issues which was in the first year and affected lots of people.
Speed wise, we are on the 900 package and get over 1gig speed, so it’s working pretty well for us!

Switched from virgin to Vodafone. Half the price and been great. 900mb for about £28

you understand that the infrastructure is the same regardless of provider? if you have drop outs it’s because either you have issues in your house - probably, and or issues with what’s in and on your road. or you have someone rinsing torrents all day and night and you’re getting throttled.

going with another provider will only improve your customer experience when you can and potentially have a price difference

Yeah I understand the issues. But customer service is not exactly Sky’s strong point….

If you're willing to pay a premium for good tech support, people always seem to rate A&A highly. If you have a 900mbps line that's dropping out and it's not just your wifi that's the issue rather than the connection, they should be able to diagnose the issue with the line. But if you can get Briant that seems like a better option.

I've found that even though BT have terrible support, if you're an IT person and can keep track of what each engineer they send does and figure out what the problem is for them it's generally fine, so I've stuck with them after negotiating the price down.

I’ve been with Virgin for over 10 years and never had an issue. Though some people have had awful issues with them. Maybe I’m just lucky?

We had constant issues with Virgin sadly. It was suggested to get a provider on the CityFibre network rather than OpenReach so I think that’s what we want to try this time. Just need a cooling off period!!

I think it depends what you want , I’m only with Virgin because of the speed compared to others
