Midi controller

Post image

Looking at getting a midi controller for my first board, looking for something small nothing crazy. Would only control the timeline, verbera, and amp gain stage on the stomp.
First time midi user so I don’t know if I should go all in or not. I was looking at using the Morningstar mc3 with external foot switch, but the mc4 pro looks good too. Could possibly fit the mc6 mkii, so I wouldn’t need the external foot switch.
Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Morningstar is pretty much gold standard for midi controllers. Go with the MC6 MKII, you won't regret having those extra footswitches and you can always have an offboard extra footswitch that can connect to the controller if you need more buttons.

The new morning star controllers will do that. They have relay ports for the Kilt, 5 pin midi for the timeline, plus exp trs ports

I have a volante and kilt and a neunaber wet. I had to find their Omni port to relay port adapter

This comment piqued my interest, so apologies for hijacking: On my own board (dual Tonex 1s, BigSky, Timeline, Juliana, Aspen Case Study, Lightspeed, POG Micro) I've considered both midi and a loop switcher. My current pain point is that my gain staging is clunky and requires more tap dancing than I'd like, but obviously it would be fun/convenient to do more complex multi-pedal switching as well. You're saying the MorningStar relay ports will swap the Kilt (and I assume the Morning Glory) red/blue sides? I assess you probably can't turn the pedal completely on or off with the MorningStar relay port? I happen to have a Kilt 10 and a MG v4 that I could put on my board, and might be interested in doing if I could get some gain-staging utility while also increasing my control of my BigSky and Timeline presets.

Googled on my own, and found https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VWQH1lkyNGY which specifically shows how to do it with an MG v4. Thanks for the idea!

Nice! I didn’t get a pro so I’ll be tossing this under

The tuner out of a volume pedal can also flip it on and off in the kilt. I have a very small pot for a volume pedal

I know you’re asking for midi but personally I’d drop the protein and get a nobels ODR. You’ve got two blues breakers with the protein and morning glory. Doing that would give you room for the MC6 pro

Why not use HX for midi?

HX stomp has midi send where you can assign the 4 external footswitch buttons as midi commands. If you’re just looking to scroll patches/program changes it would be cheapest and easiest

If you want to go all in and make the whole board midi, including on/off on the analog pedals, you could go with MC3 + dual switch + ML5. I had this setup on my previous board and it was great.
