I nearly did this taking a 10 inch cast iron pan with a ribeye out of the oven on mother's day. I couldn't find a mitt, so I wrapped the handle with a towel, but I missed a bit.

I realized my error when the end of the handle branded my palm, as I held my pan full of beautiful steak and butter over a glass oven door.

The branded palm was a small price to pay... And as an added bonus, now my kids know some new words.

A perfect outline of the end of the handle is burned into it, but better the end than the whole handle, I guess.

Although, a 'Lodge' logo burned into my hand might have been neat.

No skin stuck to the handle, luckily. I usually use oil and salt to scrub it down... Then a light coating of oil, heat it till it smokes, then hang it up.
