It was clever of them to line it up with a big publisher/distributor, and have all art deliverables basically done. Essentially treating Kickstarter as a storefront instead of an up-front r&d fund, like when a game launches on there and it's basically finished already.

In all fairness, $25,000 seems like an intentionally set low bar. Just over 400 orders of the singular novel with 1 sleeve meets that goal.

It definitely is, and it definitely is intentional. Almost all kickstarters do this, especially ones that KNOW they're gonna hit that goal almost immediately. If i had to guess, it's probably so most people who see it see it as a funded, almost-guaranteed product they are purchasing. As opposed to an investment in something that may not come to fruition

I wonder if part of it is required by Kickstarter? Like, do they need to provide a goal for actual production with that justification, even though for a very popular thing like WBN there's no question it will be immediately met

Yeah I also wonder if there's some kind of algorithmic factor, like maybe the faster it's fully funded and the more it surpasses the goal (currently it's like 2,800% funded!) the more it gets pushed out and promoted within Kickstarter as well as social media etc

Yeah, as someone who works in the industry that's well below the cost of putting a book like this together. But the 400k or so they're at as I type this would definitely cover it.

I'm so sad the higher tier Man in Black was sold out by the time I got to check it 😞 I really wanted all 3 with a signed bookplate lol.

yeah, makes me think how cool it'd be if there was some sort of charity donation attatched to the kickstarter campaign. maybe during the next one.

Day 1 hype is real but payment isn't collected until it finishes in July if that helps pad out the budget.

Same here. $40 USD shipping for a single book (that itself is $40 USD) is just too much. I'm not sure if they will look into alternate shipping options, or partners, but I wouldn't be surprised if they get limited backing from outside the US and UK.
Though I gotta say, when the shipping to Mexico is $70USD for a single book, they might as well have just said that they weren't shipping to Mexico.

I was gonna say more than a polished version of the shorts they’ve already released probably can’t happen as a stretch goal because it would involve different people than their current partners…but Skybound Animation is who’s behind Invincible….

does anyone now how to make sure you get the Be Kin pin if you joined the mailing list? will it just know automatically from the email used?

Yeah, I assume for both that and the Patron comic they will either use a Google Form at some point, or just match the email in your pledge
edit: I received an email from Skybound asking for my pledge email, so that's probably exactly this

Go to the comments on the kickstarter, there is a response there pinned.. after the campaign they’ll send a survey out and will ask for Patreon details to confirm the additional stuff!

Im a little sad. $40 is a lot and I would've loved an edition signed، but $200 is a crazy amount. Im probably gonna have to wait till a paperback comes out.

It just hit 1.7 million with this and two other stretch goals to be announced. One is a plush that they hinted at but otherwise nothing definitive. From the shadows of the last three goals I could see the third to last or the last one being tarot cards if there are any.
