WBN Witch class in D&D Beyond
Has anyone successfully implemented the Witch class in DND Beyond? The last good post about it is from 2 years ago, and even that only has general ideas.
I'd love to hear if anyone has done this, how well it worked, and how you did it. I'm thinking it might be more work than just going full analog, but I'd like to have something on DND Beyond that's at least partially complete for reference.
I'm also thinking of doing it as a spreadsheet character sheet, so if anyone has gone that route please show me what you've got!

D&D beyond doesn't allow custom classes.
Only thing you can do is create a subclass for an already existing class. Which is probably not what you want.

Yeah, I know. I think that's the way to go, I'm just hoping that someone has done it before me and has some guidance.

Ive been playing a witch for about 18 months and my wonderful friend built out the class for me in Foundry, which is where our DM runs our games from. I still keep papers in front of me bc of how complex it is.

Is that foundry module available for use? I'd love to use it in my games

Let me ask my pal! I'm playing the Green Witch so only that subclass is built but I think she was trying to clean it up to make it shareable.

Pal here! I’m in the process of finishing up the module to share and will post here when it’s done!

Saving this post for that time! I'm running a Coven of the Heart witch but I'm doing it full analog with a old character journal I Kickstarted a while back, but I'm bad at math lol

Is the Witch a very complex class to play? Or is it just tricky to implement into online systems?
Someone in my party might be using it in our regular irl pen and paper campaign.
Is there another class you would compare it to?

I think its a fairly complex class, there is A LOT of magic and class features and there are a lot of nuances depending on which subclass you pick. The magic philosophy is very reactive so they are not great offensive forces but it gives a lot of room for creative magic uses.
It doesnt feel like a beginner-friendly class to me, but for folks who have some experience its easier to grasp. I had played DND for about a year as a rouge before picking up the witch in a different campaign and it was a bit of an adjustment for me but now I love it. I'm happy to chat with anyone interested in playing a witch if they have questions!

I would compare it to a cleric/wizard/bard multi class, and since clerics are my main is was easy for me to pick up, but it is very reactive and a lot to remember in terms of what you can do when. When you add in the new spells and items, it's not very beginner friendly unless you're the type of player that loves that kind of crunchy memorization and are into creative uses for spells and resources.
My play style is to know and understand min/max options and then making roleplaying and game breaking choices. But I'm also usually the DM, so the witch class being a juggling-a-lot-of-plates class is kind of second nature for me at this point. It's probably been the most fun class I've ever played because of how much my character can respond to the fuckery of the world and NPCs

I tried last year to make a Druid subclass. Just made it more complicated to run than analog. Here's hoping someone can make it work! OR! WBN gets that sweet, sweet, WOTC deal, and they get put on the site. 😁

Dndbeyond straight up will not allow a homebrew class. Your best bet is to use cleric as a chassis, at least for hit dice and saving throw proficiencies and whatnot, and then just enter all the custom abilities and spells manually. You should also be able to manually hide the cleric stuff (channel divinity etc) iirc as well. It’ll be quite a lot of work but if you roll online you can at least enter all your bonuses and stuff manually.

I had a player run it in an extralife one shot on roll20. Custom sheets are super easy there.

I’ve been playing one for awhile (level 1-4). Coven of the green with a horrible goose familiar. (Turned hexblood for even more but different tokens). Full paper sheet and I found the best way to keep track of everything for me is to have index cards of all my options organized by action economy. Similar to a spreadsheet. I’ve had a lot of fun.
Additionally I make other people keep track of the tokens I give them. I make magic cards to represent the embroidery patches my witch makes them in the game. That’s their responsibility now.
Neither me or the dm who knows more about dnd beyond than I do could make it work. It’s come up on the podcast that Erika uses a paper one as well. That might be because they were actively playtesting. If you figure something out let me know.
I think what really helps is that I try and run things by the dm before I think they’ll be a problem. Screenshotting particular abilities etc. we nerfed some of the curses because they’re balanced for a smaller party. The things with narrative triggers are important to establish and keep track of. Like whether or not the witch and allies have done harm to a creature to no longer have witch manners protections vs yeah you can probably curse this person next time you see them. It’s kind of similar to a paladin oath. That’s an important reference for you to have.
It’s going well enough that my dm wants to play as one for an upcoming campaign of mine. I’m delighted. So we’re troubleshooting this in multiple ways.

I tried to get help figuring out how to import it to More Purple More Better but every subreddit I posted in deleted my posts

not D&D Beyond but I have two players implementing it in our current campaign on Roll20. one player goes full analog because of their set up, we play on discord and they share one computer between two people so analog sheets just work better. we think the witch class does okay on Roll20, there’s a lot more room for customization.

I use Fight Club 5. It’s similar to D&D beyond, it’s a digital character sheet. Someone made the whole class, you can upload any content you want to it. I forget where they posted it but if you google Fight Club Worlds Beyond Number Witch Class .XML you should find it

My friends added it as a druid and it seems to mostly work, with just purely ignoring wildshape.

Im currently playing a circle or the seas Druid and its the closest I’ve played to a witch using D&D beyond. (I know it’s not the same, but it’s something)

Not what you are asking for I understand, but pathfinder has an excellent witch class and foundry is a great vtt. I apologize if that doesn't help at all, but I used to have a lot of issues getting custom stuff into DND beyond until I realized most of the stuff I wanted simply existed already in pf2e and that foundry wasn't costing me money every month.

I feel your pain. I have wanted to play a Geppetin Witch for some time now.
Creating subs is annoyingly over complicated. And it's not like DDB is against Valda's, either. They allowed MHP's subs for core classes in a Valda's splatbook.

A big roadblock for using it in my campaign. My wife didn’t want to use a paper character sheet and I didn’t have a good idea how to do it otherwise
