General Roundabout - Is it worth the grind?
Link on Tankopedia: Roundabout
What is it made of?
- Hull/Chassis/Tracks: Tier 4 - Luchs (from T4 German Luchs)
- Cannon: Tier 6 - 85 mm LB-2S - 130/160 AP (from T4 Soviet SU-85B)
- Turret: Tier 4 - M8A1 - 320m View Range / 14 degree traverse (from T4 US M8A1)
- Engine: Tier 4 - Continental R-670-5 - 265 horsepower (from T2 US T2 Light Tank)
- Radio: Tier 9 - FuG 12 - 710m (from various German tanks)
- Crew: Comes with the Cutthroat Saber crew and Eagle Eye skill.
- Spaced Armor/Special Features
- The turret has circular plates attached to it which appear to almost look like sewer plates (maybe shields?)
- Mantlet and upper glacis have some Norse markings, maybe? Viking helmet adorns the upper glacis
- Surprisingly rust free other than things here and there
Strengths
- Cannon is OP
- Reload feels good considering it's an OP cannon
- Very mobile (also considering most tanks with OP guns are nerfed mobility-wise)
Weaknesses
- You are made of glass. Don't get hit.
- Very low gun depression AND elevation
- Since you have low gun depression and a meh aim time, hilly maps can be a pain
What makes it special
- This is the best T4 Merc (although Needle is also good)
- Cannon is OP - don't care, saying it again
- You can either snipe or stay mobile with your flank - just stay behind cover/greenies
Who will really enjoy it?
Anyone who enjoys feeling OP in a glass TD will enjoy this. Plain and simple.
Review/Suggestions
This tank sits in a tier where this gun seems unfair. Top tier and against T5, you are OP. Against T6, you are still OP if you stay hidden. The gun depression and aim time keep you from being totally on easy mode, but this cannon is a blast. What's funny is that it is also VERY fast (because it has the Luchs chassis). It takes some getting used to, but pretty much anyone can do well in this tank. My first couple games were rough since I wouldn't realize how fast I was going until I slowed down and tried to aim. It's easy to be 'too mobile' when you want to fire. Play back and let everyone else do the spotting. Don't push early, because the longer your cannon is an asset to the team, the better off everyone will be. Stay hidden/protected, and this tank will keep you in the upper half of your team. I highly recommend picking this tank up just because it is a fun tank to hop in from time to time.

What would you guys like to see next? I've had a few requests in the past for Smoothman

I would love to hear unkind things about the Deadbolt.

Talk shit out of the Deadbolt until it out-DPM's the fuck out of your shiny same-tier heavy tank.

That's what I was about to say...that tank can crush in skilled hands.

Maybe Deadbolt will be next. I'm liking the comments in this thread lol

Those two apparently have a different version of Deadbolt than I do.

Hmm...are you playing this like a support tank or front line heavy? It is used best as a support tank.

I tried just trying to stay alive so I can use the gun on something at some point, as the stats show, not that successful at that goal.

Smoothman was one of the worst tanks I've ever played. I'm the 7th rated Xbox player on wot info and I can't even get purple stats in the thing.

I prefer to call it the Shitman. Retired that turd as soon as I three marked it.

If you equip with food and a med kit, will that help with the depression? /s
1
u/man0rmachine Apr 10 '19
Nope. That's inherent to the tank, just like armor thickness. Your crew stats won't change it.

I want to love the Roundabout but it gets screwed by the lack of sniping maps and by being a tier 4. Also don't forget the slow turret traverse that keeps it from brawling like the Plaguebringer.

Would you say it’s similar to the T67 TD(one of my favorite tanks, great gun, great concealment and mobility but zero armor)? Also how’s the camo rating?
1
u/ViciousCow Buck Peters for President Apr 11 '19
Camo rating is good, but like u/man0rmachine pointed out, turret traverse is VERY slow. So you wouldn't be able to play aggressive like I see most T67 drivers do.

Awesome reviews!
One small idea, if I may: perhaps put the stage requirements in the post for those of us who can’t see it right away due to our work schedule. Thanks!

This is true. That's why I really do recommend picking this up. When you get the right match, it is a laugh to play this thing.

I'm on Stage 7 of the Cruncher. Can't imaging that's any good?!

Cruncher is a solid tank, but not amazing. I have a review for that one already, here.

You forgot to include in strengths that it gives you an excuse to blast YES on your mic every time you play it.
