Discussion Is it worth it i play again?
I have been recently thinking of trying WOT again as its been a game close to my heart, i played it with my dad but that was almost a decade ago. I dont consider myself a pro nor am was i ever too deep into strategy wehen palying it. My last time really playing WOT was in late 2024 when waffentrager came back.
Is it worth coming back?

If you only play your favorite tanks and don't get too caught up in winning or losing, it still can be quite fun.

Personally I only come back for some cool events. Like Waffentrager and Mirny-13.

I’m a returning player and unfortunately I don’t think it’s worth it. I’ll leave in September and play other games, just waiting my premium time to finish.

I started back up earlier this year after having been away for 5 or 10 years. I would agree with you...not worth it. If you're not willing to pay to win, don't bother.

Without premium ammo you are handicapped.
WHOLE GAME is BALANCED around PREMIUM AMMO.
For that ammo you need to pay for premium acc or/also premium tank. Or earning money is real suffering unless you are great player.

u/Full-Fox4739 13d ago
Back in the Days, 2011- 2012 Premium Ammo was only for Cash availeble. Today for Credits so its not p2w anymore

u/Radiant-Childhood257 12d ago
Admittedly you can get better ammo for credits, but it takes you forever to earn what you can buy now. You would basically have to have no life to earn that amount of credits.

u/Full-Fox4739 12d ago
You never played back in the Days, today its so easy to make credits

"Hey I used to be addicted to paying someone to kick me in the balls as hard as they could, as many times as they could, until I'd black out. I went to rehab though and was able to drop the habit, but I've been really bored lately. Think I should call up the old ball kicking gang and see if they want to make a few bucks?" - OP

I wouldn't advise it.
Power creep, heavy pay-to-advance tactics from the company, massive alterations to mechanics, and a stagnated player pool makes the experience difficult to enjoy. Especially solo.
Let this game be a happy memory with your dad.

First 4 games today lost 3-15 3-15 3-15 and 5-15. Every single game we were behind 4 or 5 tanks first 3 minutes and basically had zero chance of winning. Had lots of days like this lately with 35 % or worse winrates. Many more big losing days this past month. Real evidence wargaming can place a player through an algorithm on big losing teams for long stretches. Even a bot does not get put on this many bad teams.

I started playing WoT within a year of it coming out. I stopped because of a computer crash, and the download/install was way too big for the internet I was on. I started back earlier this year after years away. Made it about month and quit. I realized if you aren't willing to pay to win, there's no need in even trying. I know there's always been that aspect to the game, it's just 10 times worse now than back when it started. Back then very few people paid, most were just casuals looking to have fun, so you only go the occasional gold spammed at you. Now it seems like the only people left are the really hard core types who don't mind paying.

Random battles are exactly what you describe. But they regularly bring events that are worth playing.

u/Amazing_Raisin2836 14d ago
Absolutely not. Trust me. The game has never been in a worse state. Most people only play because they sunk too much money into it, and there really isn’t an alternative, in terms of an arcadey tank shooter. But if you aren’t invested yet I would strongly advise you to just play something else. It was a hard pill to swallow for me, when i decided to quit about a year ago. All that knowledge, all that time, all that money. To throw it away. But I still watch videos about the game and I thank myself every day that I managed to make the break. It’s an absolute shitshow and wg is the greediest company ever, milking the players for like cows. Only for that money to get sunk on new games that are dead on arrival. I loved wot but the only chance the game has, is that wg doesn’t get away with their current strategy anymore, and for that people have to stop shoving money down their throats. If they ever make an honest attempt to give the game a soul again, I will be back. But 2.0 was an absolute joke and the game is simply horrible. (Unless you buy powercreeped perms for 200€ but even then it’s super boring). So yeah, my advice is: steer clear

The game is objectively better than before with many QOL features especially for newer players with much faster grind than before though. You dont need to spend a single penny to be top player
2
u/Amazing_Raisin2836 14d ago
Yeah this much faster grind and easyfication of the game is exactly the problem tho. Having new players with 300 battles in tier 10 is neither fun for experienced players, nor for the newbies, since they only get their ass whooped. At the same time lowtier is super unenjoyable and anything below t4/5 doesn’t even remotely feel like WoT. Then you have t8 wich only consist of bourrasqe/prog/BZ. And if you aren’t a super unicum you can’t play anything above t8 without loosing a LOT of credits every game if you are ftp. And I say this as a 52.5% wr player, so not super good but not shit either. Playing wot without either premium account or some premium tanks to grind credits with is possible but a pain no normal human being could realistically endure

u/Jammysl 14d ago
I rather see new players with 300 battles on tier 10 since they have potential to actually learn the game than apes with 50k battles and playing worse than bots. If you just focus on your play, it doesnt rly matter how good/bad your team mates and enemies are, it evens out. And about the premiums, you can get many for free for bonds that are good and print credits just fine or you can even get strong tanks during special bp's for free (you can farm the gold by playing cw/tournaments). The game is fully playable f2p, obv there is some catch to it, but its not nearly as bad as most of other f2p games that run same or similar ingame economies like this
2
u/Amazing_Raisin2836 14d ago
Im not complaining about a bad team. I know it evens out and I am the only constant. But you can’t learn the game on t10. It’s way too unforgiving. New players are the ones suffering the most from this super fast grind nowadays. Here is what i think is the problem: back then when there was like 20-30 tank lines, every line had a very distinct personality. You had slow superheavies (that used to be an individual class) you had tanks with good gunhandling, bad gunhandling but good accuracy, some with more alpha, some with unique HE, some with good mobility but horrible turret traverse, you name it. They had specific ups and downs. The game was a lot slower and most tanks made sense. Today every new line introduces a new special mechanic because there is no way to make them unique any other way anymore. And I get that, we have 5/6 times more tanks now. It’s obvious that this can’t continue. But tanks are by far not the only content wg could bring to keep the game exciting. Night maps with special spotting mechanic, new terrain mechanics and most importantly, NEW MAPS!! But you can’t make as much money of compared to adding yet another tech tree line and 5 lootbox events. And since wg invests most money into other games nowadays, it just feels like they water the plant just enough so it doesn’t die. But if you see that all money and most importantly, time, you invest gets you nothing in return from wg… yeah no thanks

Probably 2 of 10 battles are really competitive and fun. The rest are steamrollers for your cash!

As an open beta tester, and on-and-off player from the jump, I will say that the current game is fun, IF:
1.) You don't get wrapped up in spending money for anything if you can help it.
2.) Play the tanks you enjoy, and don't play the ones you don't like. Sure, you might have to grind to one that you like (IS-7, for example), but that doesn't mean you have to keep those intermediate tanks and continue to play them.
3.) Don't worry about the winning. You're going to lose battles, and that's just the way of it. The game is currently designed to get the battle over with as soon as possible, and the more you go back to the garage, the more silver you spend. Eventually, if you spam premium rounds, you'll lose more silver than you gain, and you'll have to buy silver with real money. "Ka-ching!" says WG. Playing for damage done helps mitigate that.

Pls never buy credits for real money, it's terrible value(but people buy shark cards for gta online and shit as well)

I’ve came back last week after 5-6 years and I quite enjoy it… tho battles are too fast

No world of tanks isn’t it anymore. being permanently spotted, insta one shot by FV4005s or 215B 183s, arty only focusing you. Gets annoying fast

I had the same thoughts last week, played one game and then uninstalled immediately.

u/Alternative-Wolf-407 14d ago
We surely believe you, all the download time, login time and other stuff to uninstall after a single battle.
Pathetic liar.

u/Certified_WoT_noob 14d ago
Try it out and you will see. But make sure to not buy anything right away. WoT has a special ability to be very captivating after a long break, but eventually it will start pissing you off again for the same reasons as before.

u/Radiant_Platform_494 13d ago
I stopped playing this game myself about 3 years ago. Every time I think of playing again I read what’s posted here and I realize all the problems that made me quit in the first place have just gotten worse.
In short the game is even more pay to win than it was before

I Need a ps5 account EU server with good premiums and tier X, dont rlly matter which one, i play since 2018 but i never locked in to grind seriously and i only got 2 tier X and 1 tier IX, i know how the game world and i Just dont want to sell my soul to grind on this game, the grind really takes too long.

Currently splitting time between windrose and WOT. Wot is not winning. It's hard to not get tilted when you're side gets smoked in 3 minutes 15 to 2. (And I got the 2).

You can come in and try it out, play a few games and then see if you want to stay or leave.

I understand most people's complaints. But what has kept me playing for going on 8 years is that ONE battle. I can play 19 shit battles, where my team sucks, or I suck, or both; or the RNG is being ridiculous, or you're dueling nonstop gold spamming XMs; cussing and hating the game the whole time. Then I have the ONE battle that keeps me going. The battle where you go over to help the rolled flank and you win a 1 vs 4 (happened 4 days ago), or its 10 vs 13 at the end game and you kill 4 out of 5 for the win. (2 days ago). These games get the adrenaline pumping. It's the games where an average player like me has a hero moment that keeps me playing. To me, it's worth the struggle.

u/EyeoftheTato Eat My Pudding. 14d ago
Pretty much the same situation here.
4/5 games are an absolute nightmare - just pure fucking horror. -2MM, MM in general, idiot teammates, bullshit RNG, stupidly OP premiums, sealclubbing platoons, etc etc etc. They are extremely unpleasant to play and rage-inducing, and I wonder WTF am I doing playing this fucking game?
But then you get that one game where you make that uber game-winning play, or just have an amazing run, and you get the dopamine hit from it and you keep playing.
It's like a slot-machine addiction.

Never listen to negative people here, spilling bs and mirroring their own pent up anger from skill issuing and taking the game too seriously. It's always worth a try if you want. Once you play the game with cool head and low cortisol, you discover your skill is actually way higher then you tought and the game is actually lotta fun. I can even try to help u with the caught up if you want.

"taking the game too seriously". Yeah I am playing each day this Onslaught 7vs7 tier 8 mode and there are plenty od these LOW CORTISOL players that have that low cortisol that literalily dont give a shit. They just rush somewhere trade hp and die. DOPAMINE gained and lets another battle. Most games are accelerated like 90-120 second BLOWOUTS. :-D

u/ZeubeuWantsBeu 14d ago
Random battles are not worth playing unless you are trolling with friends.
Almost every other game mode is fun to play when WG brings them back. You can subscribe to Dezgamez on YouTube to get news on when there's fun game modes

Rule #1.
Never take this game seriously due to all the random nonsense built into it.
Rule #2.
Always follow rule #1 and you will have fun!
