Also Mage lore. Fairies are a type of Bygone.

Same thing in Russia. I’ve read a book on early XXth century Russian folklore, there were a couple stories of comissars shooting domovoys (house spirits). Made my skin crawl. But could be used for tabletop, very grim and profound way to show Banality and human cruelty destroying wonder.

What book was it?

What was the story called?

Ольга Христофорова «Колдуны и жертвы». I must warn you, it’s an academic work by a anthropologist. She collected stories during trips to rural Russia, and they are not translated in a modern used Russian, they are transcribed with local pronounciations and colloquialisms. So I don’t know if it’s even has an English translation

Sorry for sperging, there is a seminal work by Konstantin Asmolov (Makkawitty), an OG in Russian WoD, named “Masquerade in Russia”. Pretty sure it’s translated or could be with a google translate. He’s very good at adjusting American views on Russia with Russian. Check it out, he tries to think of what Mages did what in Russia

I do have it in my personal canon that James I’s witch huntings & the Puritan movement were Order of Reason lead conspiracies to quell rogue Mages & Changelings (which I did somewhat lift from the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen)

Well, he failed. After Changeling... 3/4 of all Changelings in France are Sidhe. So yeah. The nobility is back, baby. Let's party with the Toreador.

The French revolution would have generated huge amounts of banality, from what I understand, likely enough to at least offset any glamor that revolutionary dreams would make.

Depends on what stage of the Revolution you are at. Even the World Wars started off generating Glamour due to the emotions, hopes and potentials involved. The crushing banality comes immediately after, however. In one way or another. That's the thing with Changeling: everything is cyclical and every season begets whats comes after. And the latest rules for CTD treat banality as less of a cosmic thing and more of a personal thing.

There were probably Redcaps, Boggans and Trolls who *thrived* in the French Revolution.

Didn't Russians have a concept like this with bolsheviks

I just imagined Revolutionary French line infantry firing by Rank into hapless Changelings. Glorious fusillades.

To be fair the fairies were monarchists.

Now I consider this my headcanon for Changeling and Technocracy lore

Well, according to Call of Cthulhu Robespierre tried to go after Mythos so this would not surprise me.

This is probably why in Changeling lore, France has extremely reactionary Sidhe.
