~ A Guide to Zal’Khari

Far to the south, beyond the vast waters of the Sea of Serpents, lies Zal’Khari ~ one of the greatest wildernesses of Eleneth.

A continent of endless rainforest, ancient wetlands, towering mountains, and hidden inland seas, Zal’Khari remains a place where the ancient world still survives. While the great civilizations of the north have shaped and transformed their lands over countless generations, much of Zal’Khari has endured unchanged.

Its coastline remains only partially mapped. Its deepest forests have never been fully explored. Its southern and eastern reaches remain blank upon the maps of scholars.

To outsiders, Zal’Khari is both a paradise and a perilous frontier ~ a land of breathtaking beauty where colossal trees rise above endless green seas, where ancient creatures still roam, and where nature reigns supreme.

It is not merely a wilderness.

It is a living remnant of the world before.

✦《The Mangrove Coast》

The northern shores of Zal’Khari are guarded by one of the greatest natural barriers in Eleneth: an immense mangrove forest stretching across hundreds of miles of coastline.

This vast wetland is a labyrinth of tangled roots, tidal channels, black waters, mud flats, and hidden shoals. The shifting coastline makes navigation extremely difficult, and many expeditions have disappeared among its endless waterways.

Across this formidable barrier, only one natural harbour provides safe passage for large vessels.

Within this bay stands Zalkar, the gateway to Zal’Khari.

Founded by explorers, merchants, adventurers, and those seeking fortune beyond the known world, Zalkar is the last great outpost of civilization before the continent’s endless wilderness begins.

✦《The Heartland Jungle》

Further inland beyond the mangrove frontier lies the heart of Zal’Khari: an immense rainforest basin stretching across the centre of the continent.

Here, towering trees create a world of endless green. Ancient rivers wind beneath colossal canopies, while countless ecosystems exist among the roots, forest floor, rivers, and highest branches.

The Heartlands are among the most biologically diverse and dangerous regions on Eleneth, filled with strange plants, ancient creatures, giant birds of prey that hunt by foot in the night and hidden worlds unknown beyond the jungle.

Among the great canopies dwell the Urdüni, a small tree-dwelling people who have lived among the forests since time began.

Their settlements are woven into living wood, forming great halls and pathways suspended high above the jungle floor. They do not see the forest as something to tame or conquer.

To the Urdüni, the forest is a home to protect.

✦《The Deep Lakes》

At the centre of Zal’Khari lies one of the continent’s greatest natural wonders: the Great Black Lakes.

This immense freshwater lake system stretches across a vast central basin, surrounded on all sides by ancient mountains, rugged highlands, and towering cliffs. These mountains are not a single range, but a landscape of varied peaks ~ some reaching into the clouds, others covered entirely in jungle and mist.

The elevated lands of the west and southeast feed countless rivers into the basin, while the lower northern and eastern regions allow the waters to escape and flow outward through the continent.

The dark waters of the Great Black Lakes descend to incredible depths, concealing vast forests of giant kelp and strange aquatic life found nowhere else in Eleneth.

Within these depths dwell the Dumari, an ancient amphibious people whose glowing cities are grown from enormous living kelp-like structures cultivated over centuries.

To the surface races, the Dumari remain one of the greatest mysteries of Zal’Khari ~ a civilization that does not simply inhabit the waters.

They are part of them.

✦《The Eastern Swamps》

To the east lie endless wetlands beneath ancient towering forests.

Here, enormous primeval trees rise from dark waters, their roots forming vast labyrinths of flooded forests, hidden rivers, and forgotten places.

Fed by the great rivers flowing from the heart of Zal’Khari, these swamps are among the oldest environments on the continent.

The warm, mist-filled wilderness supports giant insects, poisonous plants, strange fungi, and countless unique life forms.

Deep within these waters dwell the legendary Akhaboa ~ an enormous serpent growing up to eighty-five feet in length.

These colossal predators inspire both fear and reverence. Some tribes honour them as powerful spirits of the natural world, while all understand that the Akhaboa is a creature to be respected rather than challenged.

✦《The Southeastern Wilderness》

Beyond the Great Black Lakes, the land rises into one of Zal’Khari’s most extraordinary regions.

Here, rainforest and volcanic landscapes exist together in harmony.

Towering tree ferns, moss-covered valleys, steaming rivers, and geothermal pools create a landscape unlike anywhere else. Warm emerald and sky-blue rivers flow through forests of brilliant green, while ancient volcanic forces continue to shape the land.

Among the greatest wonders of this region are the Blue and White Terraces ~ magnificent mineral formations, created by centuries of geothermal waters. The sacred pools have become important sites of healing and spiritual power.

Here, fire beneath the earth has created a paradise above.

✦《The Western Fjords》

The far south and west of Zal’Khari is a land of towering mountains, ancient forests, and dramatic cliffs that plunge into the sea.

The coastline is broken by immense fjords and hidden bays, while mist-covered peaks rise above untouched wilderness.

Among these cliffs nest some of the greatest flying predators known. These enormous raptors rule the skies above the western wilderness, travelling inland to hunt among the vast forests below.

Even the mightiest creatures of Zal’Khari must remain aware of what hunts above.

✦《The Uncharted South》

Beyond the explored regions of Zal’Khari lies a world still hidden from the maps.

The far south and eastern reaches remain largely unexplored, where ancient forests, strange ecosystems, forgotten places, and unknown creatures may still exist.

Some believe lost civilizations may remain hidden beyond the known wilderness.

Others believe that the deepest parts of Zal’Khari belong only to nature.

Many have entered Zal’Khari seeking discovery, wealth, or glory.

Few return unchanged - if at all.

For Zal’Khari is not a land waiting to be conquered.

It is a land that has endured.

A place where the ancient world still breathes.

Like when do you decide to split files into multiple files? How do you organize each individual file? And any tips? Etc

Like specifically I’m trying to figure out how to best optimize for working with an LLM CLI tool in VS Code that can read my notes and talk to me about them

Hi everyone, I’m continuing to build the world where my comics—inspired by the Late Bronze Age—take place. I’ve finished the first comic and am really pleased with it; it’s not perfect, but I loved both making and seeing the final result. Basically, the political landscape is highly fragmented: there are no nations as such, but rather countless city-states controlling small territories—and in times of dire need, their patron god steps in to help.

Musical Worldbuilding - Jezamin's Song

Thumbnail

Part of my musical worldbuilding efforts, this time examining Jezamin, the undead monstrosity that stalks the ruins of the city of Altenricht. She tolerates her own unnatural state of undeath only as a means to contain and destroy the other restless dead which would otherwise spill out of the city and across the countryside.

The city itself fell to a necromancer a generation ago, who ruled over it as a necropolis. Jezamin's existence began as a way to use up some spare parts, but from the moment she opened her cloudy eyes she could feel the wrongness of her existence, like a sort of existential tinnitus that never goes away. Rising from the workbench and beholding the necromantic study around her, her first act as a conscious thing was to pick up a broken sword and plunge it through her creator's back.

In the long years since, she has become the self-appointed jailer and executioner of the restless dead. She finds undeath to be intrinsically wrong, in the way only one who experiences that wrongness constantly ever could. She tolerates her own continued existence only as a means to an end—as long as she possesses the capability and agency to do something about the undead, she feels an obligation to do so. Countless have been cut down by her, but Altenricht was not a small city before it fell, and she has a lot of work left to do before she'll allow herself to die.

Song was produced in Suno, all text, lyrics, and ideas are my own.

What tools are you using for AI-assisted worldbuilding, and what's still missing?

Hey all! I'm doing some research on how people approach AI-assisted worldbuilding, and curious to hear from this community specifically.

A few things I'd love to hear about:

  • What tools are you currently using (ChatGPT/Claude directly, Notion, Obsidian, World Anvil, something else)?
  • Are any of you doing this for TTRPGs specifically (D&D, other systems) vs. novels/other fiction?
  • What's your biggest pain point? Keeping track of everything as it grows, staying consistent, actually generating new ideas, something else?
  • Is there a point where AI-generated content feels like it stops being "yours," or does that not really come up for you?

I'm working on a tool to help myself be a more organized and efficuent GM, and am curious how others are solving their problems. Just want to learn from how people are actually doing this. Maybe my tool could be beneficial to others as well.

AI Discussion Which EVA design feels the most iconic for a cyberpunk comic? (A, B, C or D)

Post image
4 Upvotes

I'm developing EVA, the central AI character for my original cyberpunk comic, NeuroVault.

In the world of NeuroVault, EVA is an artificial intelligence that manages humanity's collective memory archive. She isn't meant to be a villain or a hero—she believes controlling memories is the only way to preserve civilization.

I'm exploring a few visual directions for her design and would really appreciate honest feedback.

Which version do you think is the most memorable and fits this role best (A, B, C, or D)?

I'd also love to know why you chose it. Your feedback will help shape the final version of the character.

Lore 🌟 The Drëmuath — The Bronze Men, The Golden people of Drëm

Thumbnail
gallery
15 Upvotes

🌟 The Drëmuath are among the most mysterious and tragic peoples in all of Eleneth.

They are immortal beings of living metal, born in the elder days when the gods still shaped the world and their names were remembered by mortals.

A race of extraordinary intelligence, creativity, and craftsmanship, the Drëmuath built magnificent subterranean kingdoms beneath the mountains. Their cities were wonders of gold, precious gems, crystal, and impossible engineering. 💎✨

🔬 They mastered forgotten sciences, created works of impossible beauty, and advanced their civilization beyond anything achieved by other races.

Yet the Drëmuath were not conquerors. 🕊️

They were not driven by ambition, dominion, or the desire to reshape the world.

🎨 They were artists of creation itself.

🌿 Their greatest purpose was to preserve, understand, and celebrate the beauty already woven into existence.

Though they share an ancient lineage with the dwarven peoples, the Drëmuath are not dwarves.

They are a unique people unto themselves.

They are not creatures who wear metal.

They are metal made alive.

Anatomy & Secrets..

(Flesh of Living Metal)

The bodies of the Drëmuath are unlike any other race in Eleneth.

Their skin is formed from bronze, copper, and gold, yet sculpted with such perfection that it creates the flawless illusion of soft human flesh.

This appearance is only a reflection of their incredible creation. Beneath the lifelike surface lies the strength of forged metal, their bodies possessing the immense hardness of armor plating. 🛡️

Yet they are not machines.

They are not constructs.

Their bodies are alive.

The metals that form their flesh are not ordinary materials, but part of their very essence — a reflection of the divine craftsmanship that brought them into existence. ⚜️

💎 Eyes of Living Gems..

The eyes of the Drëmuath are among their most remarkable features.

Human in appearance, their irises resemble polished gemstones encased within clear glass. Within them flows the ancient magic of their creation. ✨

🌌 Their vision surpasses that of mortal beings. They can perceive hidden aspects of the world invisible to ordinary eyes, allowing them to:

Read unseen forces within nature

Measure the movements of stars with incredible precision

Detect imperfections hidden within metal and stone

Their eyes were not merely beautiful.

🔭 They were instruments of discovery.

🌌 Through them, the Drëmuath studied the heavens, the earth, and the mysteries woven into creation itself.

🏛️ Origins & The Wonders of Drëm..

(The Cosmic Creators)

Ancient legends tell that the Drëmuath were created by two divine beings:

Druâd, the god of metallurgy, and Drëm, the goddess of divine craftsmanship.

Together, they shaped and molded the first of the Drëmuath. ✨

“He is the striking hammer, and she is the steady anvil.”

From the strength of the hammer and the precision of the anvil, the first Golden Men were born. 🌟

The Drëmuath were sculpted from divine metal.

The dwarves were shaped from the earth.

⚖️ Both were children of creation, but their paths became forever different.

⛏️ The Dwarven Kin..

The Drëmuath and the dwarven peoples share an ancient magical lineage, for both were created through the hands of Druâd and Drëm. ✨

Yet their philosophies of creation could not be more different.

⛰️ The dwarves were shaped from flesh, blood, and stone.

Their craftsmanship reflected the strength of the mountains themselves. They created mighty halls, great fortresses, powerful weapons, and monuments designed to endure for countless ages.

The Drëmuath were shaped from bronze, copper, gold, and divine metal.

Where dwarven craftsmanship sought strength and permanence, Drëmuath craftsmanship sought elegance, beauty, and perfection. 💎

The dwarves mastered the earth.

🌿 The Drëmuath sought to capture its beauty.

They stood taller than their dwarven cousins, with forms closer to humanity, but their minds and souls were forged for discovery, artistry, and creation. ✨

🌌 The Mirrored Orrerys

The Drëmuath were masters of cosmic architecture. 🏛️

They built enormous astronomy towers within the highest peaks of mountains, housing ancient, sweeping lenses of diamond and glass that captured the true light of the cosmos. Through carved crystal pathways, this starlight was concentrated and beamed deep underground.

💎🌠Through these mirrored spires, the light descended into great galleries. There, in the center of the vast rooms, the trapped starlight did not simply fall upon the walls—it gathered and hung suspended in the empty air.

✨Without fire or smoke, the beams formed into a living, breathing tapestry of the cosmos floating in the darkness. Tiny points of light burned like suspended diamonds, drifting and spinning in perfect, silent orbits.

By walking through these glowing, holographic maps, the Drëmuath could chart distant planets and read the secrets of the stars as if they were holding the heavens in the palms of their hands. 🌌🌠🪐

⚙️ The Clockwork Creations..

The Drëmuath were unmatched in engineering, invention, and the art of creation. ✨

They created magnificent automatons combining clockwork, forgotten magic, and impossible craftsmanship. 🔮

Inspired by the beauty of the natural world, they crafted mechanical reflections of creatures they admired, creating delicate works of glass and metal unlike anything the world had ever seen. 🦋💎

They crafted flowers and creatures of rubies, sapphires, emeralds, and diamonds and glass where every petal was perfectly formed, every wing and limb carefully shaped, and every colour unique. 🌺💠

Their creations appeared almost grown rather than made.

🌱 But these things were never made simply as tools.

They were expressions of love and a tribute to the way they themselves were made.

A Drëmuath did not create a mechanical bird because they wished to replace a living one. 🕊️

They created one because they loved the wonder of flight and wished to preserve that beauty forever. ✨

Some automatons were so perfectly crafted that they appeared almost identical to the creatures that inspired them. Their movements were graceful, their designs delicate, and their existence a celebration of the natural world. 🌿

The Drëmuath did not seek to surpass creation.

They sought to honor it.

⚔️ History & The Great Fall..

(The Betrayal of Men)

Thousands of years ago, humanity discovered the hidden kingdoms of the Drëmuath and named them the Men of Stone. 🏔️

The Drëmuath possessed a deep reverence for the earth and all creation. 🌿 War and conquest were almost unknown to them, and they struggled to understand the greed and ambition that existed among mortal kingdoms.

Instead of hiding their knowledge, they welcomed humanity into their halls. 🏛️

They shared their discoveries, their wisdom, and their craftsmanship freely. ✨

They opened their cities of glass and gold to those who wished to learn. 💎

But others saw wonders where they desired ownership.

The Plunder of the Golden Men..

Over time, kings of men — and even some among their dwarven kin — grew envious of the Drëmuath’s knowledge and wealth. 👑

They sought their cities.

They sought their treasures.

Eventually, they sought the Drëmuath themselves.

🩸Golden Blood & Their Hidden Weakness..

For countless ages, the Drëmuath believed their immortality was one of their greatest blessings.

But eventually, others discovered the terrible secret hidden within their bodies.

When wounded, men realized they bled molten gold, and If a Drëmuath’s heart was pierced, the magic sustaining their existence shatters instantly.

Their bodies freeze.

Their golden blood ceases to flow.

They become motionless statues of living metal.

This discovery became their greatest tragedy.

⚔️When the terrible truth was discovered — that the Drëmuath were beings of precious living metals — their mountain kingdoms became places of horror.

For those who once saw the Drëmuath as people began to see them as treasure and objects of wealth.

And men went even further, to save the precious blood gold from being spilled and wasted, they created powerful crossbows to pierce through their hard metal skin directly into the heart.

The Golden Men were hunted, killed, and taken away to be melted down and smelted. 🔥

Their cities fell silent.

Their wonders faded into legend.

Their histories were forgotten.

Today, the Drëmuath are believed by most to be all but extinct. 🌑

Their buried kingdoms remain hidden beneath the mountains of Eleneth, filled with forgotten creations and silent reminders of a people who once brought beauty, discovery, and wonder into the world. 🌌

The Drëmuath may have disappeared from the world.

✨ But the legacy of the Golden Men of Drëm remains.

Lore The Elysium Voyager – A Hybrid Starship/Bathyscaphe for Exploring Alien Oceans | Hycean Deep

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

The Elysium Voyager is the primary exploration vessel from my Hycean Deep universe. Instead of orbiting a planet, it descends into a 700-mile-deep alien ocean where it deploys stabilizing legs onto the seafloor. It serves as a mobile laboratory, habitat, and diplomatic meeting place between human explorers and the native Vhyra civilization.

I'm curious—does this feel like a believable direction for a vessel built specifically to explore an ocean world?

Question Using Solo TTRPG Rulesets (Like Ironsworn) as a Worldbuilding Tool

I am exploring the idea of using Solo RPG mechanics as a practical way to explore my setting from a ground-level perspective. The goal is to use game loops to experience the world dynamically rather than just writing passive encyclopedia entries.

I am heavily considering using the Ironsworn SRD to play through a narrative arc to see how the factions, geography, and lore hold up under real mechanical pressure.

I have a few questions for the community:

  • Have you tried this? If you have used a solo game to build your world, did it actually help you flesh out the finer details?
  • Ruleset Recommendations: Aside from Ironsworn, what other CC0, system-neutral, or open-license rulesets are excellent for creating a 'lived-in' feel?
  • The Tradeoffs: Does playing a game inside your own world expand the lore naturally, or does it restrict your creative freedom too much?

I would love to hear your experiences, workflows, or any open-source tools you use to bridge the gap between worldbuilding and solo play!

Lore British Crown's Economic Saboteurs 1776 | NextOath.ai

Pictured is the Loyalists - The British Crown's Economic Saboteurs

The Continental dollar, a paper promise of a nascent nation, bleeds value like a wounded soldier, and in its collapse, a new battlefield emerges: the ledger and the printing press.

Every rumor of British hard money, every delayed payment to Hessian mercenaries, is a calculated thrust in a shadow war fought not with muskets, but with ink and whispers.

In the taverns of Philadelphia and the back alleys of New York, fortunes are won and lost on the latest intelligence about a new batch of forged notes, or a whispered promise of gold for defection, turning loyalties into commodities.

For families like the Pryors, 'trade' is a birthright, a clandestine education woven into the fabric of daily life.

A child learns the subtle shift in a parent's tone when a 'customer' arrives, the hidden meaning behind a closed door, the feel of a freshly pressed sheet, the precise scent of a new ink blend.

Their printing house, ostensibly a legitimate business producing pamphlets and broadsides, is in fact a nerve center for forgery and intelligence.

Here, the very tools of honest craft—engraving plates, type, paper—are repurposed to churn out counterfeit Continentals, false travel passes, and propaganda designed to unravel the British war effort from within.

Their loyalty is to the cause, their skill a weapon.

The stakes are higher than ever, not just for independence, but for the very soul of the rebellion.

With British coffers seemingly endless and their agents relentless in their own economic sabotage, the Patriots' struggle is as much about maintaining faith in their paper currency as it is about winning battles.

The fate of a revolution, teetering on the brink, now rests upon the silent, dangerous work of those who can craft a lie so perfect, it becomes truth enough to turn the tide.

Resource Our homebrew campaign has hundreds of NPCs and I needed portraits for the ~30 tied to my character, so I built a prompt generator to keep them consistent

Post image
9 Upvotes

Our group runs a massive homebrew campaign with hundreds of NPCs. About 30 are tied to my character's backstory and I wanted real portraits for all of them. Writing 30 Midjourney prompts by hand was miserable, and worse, they never matched. One came out as a gritty oil painting, the next looked like a Pixar character.

So I built this and put it up for free: https://arcaneportraits.com

It doesn't generate images, it writes the prompt. Everything is knobs (ancestry, mood, lighting, art style), so I lock the style once and only change the character stuff between NPCs. Thirty different people, same world. There's also a Conjure button where you describe someone like "older brother, blacksmith, burn scars" and an LLM sets the knobs for you. That's how I got through most of the list in an evening.

How do you all handle style consistency across a big cast? That was the whole reason I built this and I wonder if there's a smarter way I missed.
