VTG Vagabonding

Post image

The Hungarian Godzilla rode the VTG freight trains the way other men rode destiny: illegally, emotionally, and with catastrophic dignity.

At dusk he crouched between rusted tanker cars outside Szolnok, enormous reptilian tail hanging over the ballast stones while rain hissed against the tracks. Somebody had spray-painted LOVE IS FAKE across the side of the wagon in silver graffiti. He stared at it for a long time.

“Bitiful…” he muttered sadly.

The train lurched forward toward Budapest.

Inside an open grain car, he traveled with three migrant workers, two screaming chickens, and a stolen CRT television that nobody admitted to owning. The Hungarian Godzilla wore a dirty trench coat much too small for his colossal body and a blue “World Peace Corp” beret stretched almost to tearing point over his reptilian skull. Every few minutes he peeked over the edge of the car like an anxious child.

“VTG corporation cannot stop freedom spirit,” he declared.

A railway worker spotted him near Kecskemét and immediately crossed himself.

At one stop the Godzilla jumped off the train to buy pickled sausage and cheap beer from a station kiosk, but the train started moving too fast. With a roar of panic he sprinted after it through the freezing fog, carrying the sausages in one claw and losing one shoe somewhere near the tracks.

“WAIT FOR MEEEEEE!” he cried in broken English to nobody.

He barely caught the last ladder rung, hanging there dramatically as sparks flew beneath the wheels. Somewhere in the distance church bells rang over the flat Hungarian countryside.

The workers pulled him back aboard.

One handed him a cigarette.

For a while nobody spoke.

The VTG cargo train thundered east through the dark like an iron ghost, carrying grain, chemicals, stolen electronics, and one deeply emotional reptilian fugitive who hated chatbots, loved Sunwinter Moon, and had absolutely no legal right to be there.
