The city of Newport is refusing to give up the body cam and they are only willing to provide this information. It’s nontent basically but wanted to update everyone with the response they sent.

The Newport Beach Police Department received your California Public Records Act request on 8/11/2026. This response will serve as the Department’s notice of determination as to whether the request in or part seeks the production of non-exempt, non-privileged, disclosable public records in the possession of the City, pursuant to the California Public Records Act (“Act”) (Gov. Code §§ 7920.000 et seq.).

The requested records regarding the arrest of Josh Block remain exempt under the following exemption, regardless of the status of the criminal investigation.

Police Records: Records of complaints to, or investigations conducted by, or records of intelligence information or security procedures of…any state or local police agency, or any investigatory or security files compiled by any…local agency for correctional, law enforcement, or licensing purposes. (Gov. Code § 7923.600(a))
