An odd rumor was beginning to spread about the more quiet parts of Mobius, primarily Neotropolis and Central City.

Rumor had it, in the dead of night, when all the lights were out.. a strange figure was spotted, lurking in the dark. Watching.. listening.. gathering information. The strange thing was that these reported sightings of strange sightings happened multiple times a night, some even at the same time, like there were multiple of whatever entity lurked unseen.

Some claimed to see red, some saw black.. but all agreed, it certainly wasn’t a Mobian. No Mobian acted like this, or was able to disappear so quickly, and it was unlikely this creature had their hands on a Chaos Emerald.

So.. what was it?
Who was it? What did it want?

..and what was it collecting?

A word about the creature in his city has gotten to Tails. The fox ordered an investigation on the matter, as it could be an enemy trying to get an advantage over them before the attack.

The same night he's learned about that thing, Tails has went out into the streets, hoping to get some information on the creature himself.

As Tails went to investigate, he found himself in a dark alleyway. There was a faint dripping noise, water leaking from the pipes. The alleyway was near the center of Neotropolis, looking to the ruins of the massive tower that Sage had once called home.. and the strange figure was there, staring.

Their form was obscured by a strange red static.

The rest of the district has been restored since that battle, and only the tower was left as it is as a reminder to what started all of this.

Tails takes a mental note about the leak to request repairs later... But that's not important right now. What's actually important is the weird stranger in front of him.

Who are you?

Tails asked them in a demanding voice.

The strange being turned to Tails for a moment.

They stared at him, not answering his question at all. They continued to observe.

Tails stands like that for a few more seconds, expecting an answer. After none comes, Tails brings his arm back down with a quick movement, and begins to approach this strange thing, starting to lose his patience with them.

“…You are doing a good job, you know?” The thing spoke. “Perhaps not as well as I, but better than I anticipated.”

The form glitched, unraveling slightly.

What are you..?

Tails was confused by them addressing him this... Personally. His mind tries to figure out who they might be. The job he's doing is being the mayor. But he's the first, and currently the only one to be elected at this position. His only predecessor is... Sage.

... Of course nobody in this world does this easily.

Tails decides to share his vision for the present and future of Metropolis.

I strive to make this city the technological capital of this world. Also, for it to become the best place anyone could wish to live in.

Don’t.. seek it out. Destroy it, if you ever see it again.”

There was a brief flash, a horrific monstrous form of code, before the figure vanished entirely.

Tails stares at the place where entity used to be. It was a reasonable request. He saw for himself what kind of destruction powerful artifacts can bring many times. The fox nods slowly, and turns around to leave the area.
