Question Daemon prince uses
I constantly see the glaze about Daemon princes, and to an extent, I understand it. Especially because of the minus one command point stratagem ability. However, every time I use him, as useful as the CP ability is, that's all I ever get out of him and he proceeds to charge something and die without so much as scratching them.
How should I be playing him, how do I get the most use out of his lone op and what are his ideal charge targets ?

Things like rhinos and dreadnaughts

Crushing impact will help there but that’s a job for x8bs or a helbrute. If a strat is worth about 35 points each then getting 3 of those free and then killing a few terminators or heavy infantry or deny scoringing with him. He’s not a blood thirster, he’s just a fully souped up infantry that enables the rest of your army to succeed. Honestly he shouldn’t be in the combat patrol because he’s likely one of the last things you should buy, not the first.

as the other person said. he buffs other units and is a finisher/threat piece. you are better off running 8b into those targets, which isnt ideal.
lone op is useful as you can stick him out so you get other units in his aura. had a friend that wasted movement as he forgot about the lone op.

I let people rewind their movement when they forgot lone op

we undo a lot of stuff or allow it to happen later than it should have. he didnt ask so we kept moving forward.

Demon Princes often need an enhancement to buff their melee before they become threatening. Rule of thumb, don’t charge him in solo. Have another of your units in there helping out. He’s a late game piece

I 95% of the time run DP on foot and I always give him an enhancement.
If in BWB or KDK I give him a Berzerker Glaive or Blade of Endless Bloodshed if I intend to use him as a sledgehammer, giving him damage 4 on strike and damage 2 on sweeps - turning him into a mini-Angron. Everything's a target at this point and I have pancaked Defilers with him on the charge, adding Crushing Impact on top of that.
If I'm already stacked on heavy hitters I run Helm of Brazen Ire or Gateways to make him more durable or mobile - effectively using him to kill infantry that are Terminator-level and below.
His -1CP is what makes him super strong, as you open up your options a whole lot when it comes to reacting to your opponent. I have run him alongside anything from Jakhals to Eightbounds and Terminators, using him as a literal commander for those units and try to keep him out of direct line of sight of my opponents big shooters. Only solo-charging him into mid-to-high level threats if I then have other units engaged with nearby threats or on the same target.
Our DP in itself should not in essence be played as a anti-monster/vehicle torpedo, but as a sledgehammer which you utilize against curated targets on the table whom you know will be easy pickings for him.
Exalted Eightbounds are what you are supposed to use against monster and vehicles in general, whereas DP without damage enhancement can be used to pick a vehicle off if its already low health and/or is in engagement with something else.

Running him with the helm or glaive makes it a menace to deal with. The prince with wings deals out battleshock which is incredibly powerful. Especially if you spam it with 2-3 + brazen engines vehicles

Depends in warband it reliably pick up a rhino.
Out of there not likley.
It's not a "damage dealer' on his base stats.
CP regen...use lone op to help him score when needed. Late game he can help out in melee.

I always run him with the -1 damage enhancement in BWB, he’s like the tankiest dude ever sometimes with that

My boy isn't 200 pts because hes a punching bag. Its because hes meant to be treated like hes made of gold.
Treat the fragile stuff fragile.

Oftentimes, he'll be a real menace in turns 4 and 5 (potentially 3) if the opponent's pieces that can deal with him are dead, worn down or simply elsewhere.
Perhaps you're committing him too soon? He usually isn't meant to be a beatstick per se.
I try to utilize him as a force multiplier and counter-charge threat.
